{"id":748239,"date":"2022-01-13T18:07:29","date_gmt":"2022-01-13T18:07:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/01\/13\/protect-us-or-we-go-into-bloody-showdown-with-landguards\/"},"modified":"2022-01-13T18:07:29","modified_gmt":"2022-01-13T18:07:29","slug":"protect-us-or-we-go-into-bloody-showdown-with-landguards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/01\/13\/protect-us-or-we-go-into-bloody-showdown-with-landguards\/","title":{"rendered":"Protect Us Or We Go Into Bloody Showdown With Landguards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<article>\n<p>The people of Podoe, a community in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region are threatening to take things into their own hands by engaging land guards, who have been destroying their property and farmlands in a bloody showdown. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/f238ea0f286146c984ca57c9e929e90e\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The people in the community are angry and feel betrayed by the inability of the state and its institutions to provide them with protection. <\/p>\n<p>They claim it has been four years of inaction by the police to tackle the land guards who are making life miserable for them. <\/p>\n<p>They are no longer able to bear with the situation and are giving the Inspector General of Police (IGP) a seven-day ultimatum to get his men to move against the land guards \u2013 rein them in, or they are going to be forced to defend themselves. <\/p>\n<p>The people, clad in red, hit the streets to express their frustration and denounce what they say has been the inaction of the government and the police to use the coercive powers of the state to stop the criminal activities of the land guards. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/a34b80b5a6f942fdb8bffa1e0c9b76a5\"\/><\/p>\n<p>A former assembly member of the area, Richard Amansunu, their spokesperson, said their property and farmlands had been ruined by the miscreants brought to the community by some individuals to cause pain and create confusion. <\/p>\n<p>The people in the community have been complaining about the criminal activities of the land guards to the police since the year 2017 but nothing has been done to stop them. <\/p>\n<p>Richard Amansunu said they felt disappointed at the way things had gone. <\/p>\n<p>People would file formal complaints with the police and that would be it \u2013 no action would be taken by the law enforcement officers. <\/p>\n<p>They are therefore demanding that the IGP takes decisive action to tackle the land guards within seven days or just tell them to sort things out with the criminals themselves.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/506f12d705f14fe490872068a3d2799b\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Content created and supplied by: KyeretwienanaOseiBonsu (via  Opera<br \/>\nNews )<\/p>\n<\/article>\n<p class=\"copyright hide\">\n<span class=\"content\">    ,  .   ,     .
