The police are discounting the spurious claim by an assembly member that two dead bodies are collected every month at the abandoned Children\u2019s Park at Amakom, Kumasi. <\/p>\n

Daniel Otuo Acheampong, the assembly member for Afful-Nkwanta, had told journalists that the abandoned children park, has become a den for bad guys \u2013 hard drug users and armed robbers and that for every month they have been collecting two dead bodies. <\/p>\n
This has however, been profusely denied by the police, who say their records disprove that. <\/p>\n
According to Police Chief Superintendent Ameyaw Afriyie, the Zongo District Police Commander, the records they have showed that for the entire year of 2021, one unidentified male dead body was picked from the abandoned children\u2019s park and that was on July 11, 2021. <\/p>\n

\u201cSo, for the year 2021, that was the only dead body that we have picked from that place. <\/p>\n
As to the claim that two dead bodies are picked every month, we do not have evidence to that effect\u201d, Chief Supt Afriyie stated. <\/p>\n
The Afful Nkwanta assembly member is believed to have exaggerated things to get the authorities to fix the place and to get the park back running to serve its intended recreational purpose for children in the Garden City. <\/p>\n
Daniel Otuo Acheampong, is quoted as saying, \u201cat least we pick dead bodies here every month. We are even tired. <\/p>\n
Students and traders, particularly women, are at times attacked. <\/p>\n
They usually come here at night.\u201d Meanwhile, the Manhyia Palace, has given the assurance that the place is going to be fixed. <\/p>\n

The redevelopment of the park would cost a whopping US$25 million and it would be done in phases. <\/p>\n
Nana Agyenim Boateng, the Amoamanhene, says the phase one of the park\u2019s redevelopment into what is going to be known as the Ashanti World of Wonder, is going to start this year.<\/p>\n
