{"id":745904,"date":"2022-01-12T08:45:50","date_gmt":"2022-01-12T08:45:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/01\/12\/bawku-mce-announces-health-exceptions-to-ban-against-male-pillion-riders\/"},"modified":"2022-01-12T08:45:50","modified_gmt":"2022-01-12T08:45:50","slug":"bawku-mce-announces-health-exceptions-to-ban-against-male-pillion-riders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/01\/12\/bawku-mce-announces-health-exceptions-to-ban-against-male-pillion-riders\/","title":{"rendered":"Bawku MCE announces health exceptions to ban against male pillion riders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The Bawku Municpal Chief Executve for Bawku, Amadu Hamza has assured of some leniency in the enforcement of the ban on male pillion riders in the Bawku Municipality because of recent tensions.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on E<strong>yewitness News<\/strong>, Mr. Hamza said there will be health exceptions to the enforcement of this directive.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is the need for the police and the security in charge on the main street to stop them and identify them and see whether you are sick, and they will escort you to the hospital.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce you have identified and said you are going to the hospital, there is the need for the soldiers or the police on the ground to escort you to your destination,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Hamza also said the directive targeted men because \u201cthe men are generally the cause of the problems.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey are those who are causing those problems we are encountering now, so there is the need for us to have stringent measures against men.\u201d<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Background<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>On Monday, December 27, 2021, there was gunfire in parts of the town following attempts to perform final funeral rites for a Chief who died about 41 years ago.<\/p>\n<p>This resulted in a curfew being placed on the entire township and a ban on smock wearing.<\/p>\n<p>Thirteen persons were subsequently arrested and\u00a0<strong>airlifted to Accra<\/strong>\u00a0following the violence.<\/p>\n<p>The incident resulted in heavy security deployment to communities within the municipality.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Bawku Municpal Chief Executve for Bawku, Amadu Hamza has assured of some leniency in the enforcement of the ban on male pillion riders in the Bawku Municipality because of recent tensions.
