For the first time in history, Surgeons in Maryland USA, have successfully implanted a human, with a genetically modified pig’s heart, without immediate rejection by the patient\u2019s body.\u00a0<\/p>\n
According to doctors, the operation which took place on Friday,\u00a07 January 2022, at the University of Maryland Medical School, “Holds Hope For Organ Crisis”.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The 57 year old patient, Mr. David Bennett, had been deemed ineligible for human transplant — a decision that is often taken when the recipient has underlying health problems.<\/p>\n

Mr. Bennett who has spent several months on a heart-lung bypass machine, is currently being monitored to determine how the newly implanted organ, will performs; and according to doctors, he is recovering after the operation.<\/p>\n
According to him,”It was either do this transplant or die. I want to live. I know it’s a shot in the dark, but it’s my last choice, I look forward to getting out of bed after I recover”.<\/p>\n
The breakthrough; though brings surgeons around the world a step closer to solving human organ shortages, one question still remains…how sustainable is this good news?<\/p>\n
