A woman was shocked when she researched her\u00a0husband\u2019s\u00a0genealogy and discovered that the pair were related \u2013 but it was \u2018too late\u2019 as they were already married and had a child.<\/p>\n

Sharing her story anonymously, the woman said that she had been married for about a year when her partner discovered that he was part Native American.<\/p>\n

The woman\u2019s curiosity was sparked, as she too was part Native Americanmothe \u2013 so she did some research and looked into his family tree, but was shocked by what she learned.<\/p>\n

After going back just a short way, she saw her own maiden name on the list, so she compared his family tree with her own and found a link \u2013 her great grandmother was his great grand aunt.<\/p>\n

Taking to\u00a0Reddit, she said: \u201cI did some genealogy research on my husband\u2019s maternal side of the family. I find his great-great-grandfather who is officially Seminole Indian.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are excited at this point because we find that his grandmother was also born in Oklahoma on the Seminole territory.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, I decided to go back a Lil further and I become alarmed when I find my mother\u2019s maiden surname down the line. I look into it further and find that they were born on Chickasaw territory in Oklahoma.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt this point, my adrenaline kicks in and I immediately jump back to my mother\u2019s family tree. And there I found her. The woman that connects us. My second great-grandmother, and my husband third great grand aunt.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe first thing I thought of was my mother-in-law saying \u2018I feel like she\u2019s a part of me\u2019 when we first met. Funny how that works. <\/p>\n

\u201cNo going back now. We\u2019re married and we have a daughter together. It really is a small world.\u201d<\/p>\n

After sharing her story online, the woman was inundated with comments from people who said she shouldn\u2019t be concerned \u2013 reassuring her that it wasn\u2019t as rare as she thought.<\/p>\n

One said: \u201cIt\u2019s fine, don\u2019t flip out over it. People tend to generally stay in one geographic area, lots of people all around you are distantly related somehow. Practically can\u2019t avoid it.\u201d<\/p>\n

While another added: \u201cThat\u2019s actually kinda cool. I can see why it might disturb you at first. But your kid will have quite an interesting ancestry of being two tribes.\u201d<\/p>\n

And a third wrote: \u201cMy husband and I did this too but found out I\u2019m distantly related to his best friend.\u201d<\/p>\n
