{"id":744439,"date":"2022-01-11T10:06:53","date_gmt":"2022-01-11T10:06:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/01\/11\/black-stars-begins-quest-to-end-ghanas-40-years-trophy\/"},"modified":"2022-01-11T10:06:53","modified_gmt":"2022-01-11T10:06:53","slug":"black-stars-begins-quest-to-end-ghanas-40-years-trophy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/01\/11\/black-stars-begins-quest-to-end-ghanas-40-years-trophy\/","title":{"rendered":"Black Stars begins quest to end Ghana&#8217;s 40 years trophy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"td-post-featured-image\">\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"637\" height=\"424\" class=\"entry-thumb\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Black-Stars-637x424-1.jpg\"   alt=\"Black Stars\" title=\"Black Stars\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Black Stars<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>The senior national team, the Black Stars of Ghana will begin their quest to end the country\u2019s 40-year Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) trophy drought today.<\/p>\n<p>Having won the last trophy in 1982 in Libya, the team has come close in 1992, 2010 and 2015 but have failed to annex the ultimate.<\/p>\n<p>CK Akonnor, a former Ghana international\u00a0who steered the team to book a qualification for the tournament was shown the exit after Ghana\u2019s start to the 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifiers in October 202 having lost to South Africa in Johannesburg in the matchday 2 games.<\/p>\n<p>Having reappointed Milovan Rajevac as Akonnor\u2019s successor on a one-year deal, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has tasked the Serbian trainer to win the trophy in Cameroon.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/22191989129,1002554\/MGL\/mgl_ado_atunwa_300x250 --><\/p>\n<p>Following the unveiling of Rajevac, the country\u2019s football governing body announced that the Serbian will take home $300,000 should he steer the team to success.<\/p>\n<p>The 63-year-old trainer named a provisional squad of 30 players, a squad that was later slashed to 28, having opened camp in Doha in Qatar.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ ALSO<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The team had a three-week training camp in Doha.
