The Director of International Relations for the Socialist Movement of Ghana (SMG), Justice Akuffo-Henaku, has revealed that NPP has a history of being an Anti-labour government because once upon a time, their ancestors banned the Ghana Trade Unions Congress (TUC) in 1971.<\/p>\n
Justice Akuffo-Henaku made this statement on ‘Good Morning Africa’ on Pan Africa television this morning, 10th December 2022, when he gave his opinion on the strike actions by UTAG.<\/p>\n
According to Justice Akuffo-Henaku, this current NPP government’s labor relations are bad.<\/p>\n
He indicated that it is only a surprise that the labor front has not erupted, and they are not patches of strikes everywhere in Ghana.<\/p>\n
“People should under the law, demand what is their rights, and their rights are fair conditions of services. Mind you, salaries are not charity. People work and they have to be remunerated for the works that they’ve done.”<\/p>\n
So, if people are working and the government is not giving them fair wages, that is not fair.<\/p>\n
Justice Akuffo-Henaku stated that he is not surprised with the posture of the government because the NPP is an anti-workers government.<\/p>\n
“It is anti-labour because once upon a time, their ancestors banned the Ghana Trade Unions Congress in 1971. They seized the hall of the Trade Unions Congress in 1971. It was under Acheampong who restored it. They even amended a whole lot of the industrial relations Act of 1965.”<\/p>\n
So, they’ve always been anti-worker till they were smart enough to visit the trade unions and pretend as if they were with them, but we can see from their attitudes that they are not friendly to labor.<\/p>\n
