Mr Kodua alias JFK, argued that the General Secretary the National Chairman should remain a right reserved for the <\/span>Ashanti Region given that votes that are churned out from the area relative to the other regions. He emphatically stated that without the Ashanti Region, the NPP can never win an election in Ghana.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n This remark from JFK marginalises the contribution from other regions that had contributed to the victory of the NPP over the past years. His comments inferentially, ascribe supremacy to the Ashanti Region as being the ‘redeemer’ of the party during elections.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The remark that “results from the Ashanti Region surpasses the cumulative margins from all other regions” is politically immature as it could court the anger of party folks from the remaining regions. Already, there’s been a cause to complain among party people from the other regions about the unfairness in the political appointment of the President, and this has reinforced the belief that the other ethnic minority or regions have no place in the NPP.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The fact is that the Ashanti Region on its own cannot win the NPP any elections. What would he say then about the Western, Eastern, Central, Bono, Ahafo, and the North East Region? In fact there has not been any remarkable pattern in terms of regional performance from the Ashanti Region as compared to the Ahafo Regions which had risen from opposition with a 42.2 percentage vote margin for the NPP in 1996 to 57.4 percent in 2004 and now plateaued to 55.1 percent since 2016.<\/span><\/p>\n The Ashanti Region on the other hand has been tripping since 2004 (77%) and with margins of minus 5.8 percent in 2020 elections. The opposition NDC has been gaining grounds in the region because this sense of superiority as demonstrated by JFK has never been backed with hard work but internal party conflict. The Fomena Constituency is a classical case.<\/span><\/p>\n Consider the Eastern Region which was down with 43.5 percent voter margin in 1996 and rose to 62.4 percent in 2016. Such a leap! The percentage difference recorded for the 2020 election was just 1.9 percent relative to the 2016 record.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Besides this statistical analysis, the Ashanti Region has had one top politician being elected as General Secretary; Kwabena Agyapong in 2014 until his suspension in 2015. <\/span><\/p>\n And there are more to even put Justin Frimpong Kodua to his right mind about his claims. It’s obvious he is not a leader. This divisive campaign could cost the NPP in the 2024 election.<\/span><\/p>\n The NPP belongs to everyone one, irrespective of ethnicity or regional representation. Even if his claims were anything to go by, those positions are not taken by appointments but through a democratic process of election by delegates across the country. Knowing the NPP to be very rewarding of persons who had sacrificed for the party and shows some promising leadership qualities, no amount of this advocacy from JFK will hold. <\/span><\/p>\n Should we entertain such commentary other groupings will sprout to advance another divisive argument, and it continues till the party loses focus on the ball.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n To set an example for other aspirants, the National Council of the NPP must bar JFK from contesting any election in the NPP.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Content created and supplied by: Blind_Justice (via Opera \n , . , .
