{"id":742969,"date":"2022-01-10T12:29:14","date_gmt":"2022-01-10T12:29:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/01\/10\/i-will-not-re-register-my-sim-i-will-lead-a-protest-if-i-am-blocked-ras-mubarak-general-news\/"},"modified":"2022-01-10T12:29:14","modified_gmt":"2022-01-10T12:29:14","slug":"i-will-not-re-register-my-sim-i-will-lead-a-protest-if-i-am-blocked-ras-mubarak-general-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/01\/10\/i-will-not-re-register-my-sim-i-will-lead-a-protest-if-i-am-blocked-ras-mubarak-general-news\/","title":{"rendered":"I Will Not Re-Register My SIM, I Will Lead A Protest If I Am Blocked \u2013 Ras Mubarak | General News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Former Member of Parliament for Kumbungu,\u00a0Ras Mubarak, has served notice of his resolve to abstain from the ongoing SIM re-registration exercise being undertaken by telecommunication service providers.<\/p>\n<p>According to\u00a0Ras Mubarak, the government which is demanding the registration through the telcos has not provided a compelling argument in support of the exercise.<\/p>\n<p>He notes that the process for re-registration is unnecessarily cumbersome and that even though he is ready to risk losing his SIM card, he will organize a boycott against service providers if his SIM card is deactivated at the end of the day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have used my MTN phone number for nearly 24years. I would not Re-register my SIM card. The process is cumbersome, the argument for Re-registration is not compelling. If my network provider blocks my number, not only will I be happy to use the good old landline, I\u2019ll organize a boycott campaign against the service provider,\u201d he wrote in a recent Facebook post.<\/p>\n<p>Decrying what he said is ill-treatment by service providers to their customers,\u00a0Ras Mubarak\u00a0said there are options available for users to explore and that the providers at the end of the day have much to lose.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe service providers have much to lose if citizens take charge of how they want to be treated. Who needs a mobile number anyway when there are too many options,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>SIM re-registration exercise<\/p>\n<p>The government of Ghana has mandated the registration of all telecommunication service subscribers across the country.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Ministry of Communications and Digitisation, subscribers who will fail to meet the March 31, 2021, deadline risk losing their mobile numbers.<\/p>\n<p>The ongoing exercise has however been fraught with several challenges cumulating in the expressing of frustration by many telco users who have attempted to register.<\/p>\n<p>Aside the demand for a Ghana Card as the only acceptable form of identification for the exercise, some critics say re-registration is not necessary considering that similar exercise has been conducted in the past.<\/p>\n<p>Others have also bemoaned the long queues and waiting time at the various registration centers in the ongoing exercise.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FRasmubarak%2Fposts%2F10228452237237574&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=500\" width=\"500\" height=\"731\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"true\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3><strong\/><\/h3>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<table width=\"100%\" border=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\" style=\"clear:both\">\n<tr>\n<td><span class=\"peace_red_text_1\"><\/span>: <span class=\"peace_ash_text_1\">Opinions expressed here are those of the writers and do not reflect those of .  accepts no responsibility legal or otherwise for their accuracy of content.
