The Executive Director of Africa Educational Watch, Mr. Kofi Asare has lamented on the death of an alleged woman in labour who died because her husband couldn’t afford an ambulance fee of GH\u00a2600. He has called on Akufo-Addo and the Ghana Ambulance Service to put an end to the unfortunate situation.<\/p>\n
In a post shared on his official Facebook page on Sunday, 9th January 2022, he wrote”<\/p>\n
“Media reports that a Takoradi woman in labour just died after Ambulance allegedly demanded GH\u00a2600 for fuel to Korle-Bu; an amount her husband could not pay. This is not the first time hearing this \u2018Fuel or Die\u2019 ambulance dis-service, yet no one is angry. Where is our humanity?<\/p>\n
Mr. Asare said that Ghanaians have chosen silence in the midst of a mediocre and irresponsive health system. The poor die needlessly, while\u00a0the political elites fly abroad for medical attention.<\/p>\n
He emotionally asked;<\/p>\n
“Do you know the next victim?\u00a0Where are the women groups?\u00a0Where are the human rights groups?\u00a0Where are the health NGOs?<\/p>\n
Where are our religious leaders? Where are the citizens? “.<\/p>\n
In concluding he called on Akufo-Addo and other stake holders to take charge so that nothing of that sort might happen again.<\/p>\n

Background<\/strong><\/p>\n According to report by Ghanaweb, Mr. John Obiri Yeboah joined the Ambulance together with his pregnant wife when doctors refered them to Korle Bu. Sadly enough, he had no money on him. Upon reaching the middle of the road, the ambulance driver stopped and demanded 600 Ghana cedis for fuel before he will proceed.<\/p>\n Mr John Obiri Yeboah reportedly begged him that he should continue with the journey and add the fuel bill to their total expenditure.
