Transportation and Transfer grant for Teachers has been released by the Ministry of Finance to the Ghana Education Service for the payment of transfer grant to teachers. The transportation\/ transfer grant is the money paid to staff of the Ghana Education Service who has been transferred from one station to another, the cost of the transportation\/transfer grant is determined by the distance from the previous station to the new station in kilometres.<\/p>\n
The payment of the transportation\/transfer grant is paid to teachers on transfer to support their movement and settlement in their new school. The payment of the transportation\/transfer grant has been ceased since 2017. Teacher Unions mounted pleasure on the government to release funds for the payment. Government has indicated that, all arrears has been paid to teachers.<\/p>\n

In the past, transportation\/transfer grant covered newly posted teachers from the Training College to their newly posted station. A newly posted teacher will need this support to enable him to settle in his or her new station. There were a lot of benefits, teachers were enjoying in the past, these benefits has been scrapped by the current administration.<\/p>\n
Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) in their resolutions passed by the GNAT National Delegates Conference, demanded that, all benefits due to the teachers be restored by the government. GNAT has called on the government to include post graduate studies in the study leave for teachers to enable teachers to further their education for second degree in education, this will improve the capacity building of teachers and produce quality teachers in our schools.<\/p>\n

GNAT has also called on the government to at least provide a scholarship to teachers’ children at the tertiary level, each teacher should be given a scholarship for one child. This will help improve the condition of service in the teaching profession, teachers have contributed their quota in the development of our nation and deserve the best treatment. Teachers are the pillars of the country’s workforce and they should be given the best treatment the country can afford.<\/p>\n
