Christmas tree and d\u00e9cor at KIA costs thousands of Ghana cedis<\/b><\/p>\n GACL Board chairman defends expenditure <\/p>\n Adom-Otchere comes under fire on social media <\/p>\n US-based journalist and ardent government critic, Kevin Taylor, has hinted that he will deliver a touchscreen analysis of the Christmas tree procurement at the Ghana Airports Company Limited, GACL.<\/p>\n Taylor, in a Facebook post, revealed that he had bought a Christmas tree at $178 for his family and wondered how fellow journalist and board chairman of GACL, led the company to purchase four Christmas trees for thousands of Ghana cedis.<\/p>\n He shared a photo of the tree he bought and the one GACL procured and captioned it as follows: \u201cThis first picture tagged Kevin Taylor\u2019s Xmas tree is my Christmas tree which I paid $178 for, for my family.<\/p>\n \u201cLet\u2019s say Paul Adom Otchere bought 3 of mine for GACL twice the price of mine for a unit, how come we paying over 100,000 cedis for that? <\/p>\n \u201cThis needs touch screen analysis from WADR on Monday because it looks like in Ghana under Akufo Addo, the least opportunity anyone else gets, they want to steal from the masses.\u201d<\/p>\n WADR is \u2018With All Due Respect,\u2019 his widely followed social media socio-political commentary programme. <\/p>\n The reference to touchscreen analysis is likely slight mockery of Adom-Otchere, who has often delivered touchscreen analysis on issues on his bi-weekly programme, Good Evening Ghana, which airs on Metro TV. <\/p>\n Brief: The GACL Christmas Tree Saga<\/b><\/p>\n A number of opposition National Democratic Congress activists on January 6 started circulating a photo and cost of one of the Christmas Trees stationed at the departure hall of the Kotoka International Airport\u2019s Terminal Three. <\/p>\n Barely 24-hours later, GACL board chair Adom-Otchere, issued a statement justifying the amount spent on the tree and other decorations at KIA for the 2021 yuletide.<\/p>\n He confirmed in a Facebook post that the state company indeed spent some GH\u00a2118,000.00 on Christmas trees and decorations justifying the amount as the lowest spent by the state company for the same purpose since 2006.<\/p>\n \u201cTwo separate suppliers were invited to submit bids. The bids were discussed and discounts obtained. (We are grateful to Jandel Limited and Favors and Arts) The beautiful Christmas tree standing at Terminal 3 and 3 others altogether cost GH\u00a234,000, which was graciously provided by Jandel Limited at a heavy discount. (We thank Jandel Limited),\u201d Adom-Otchere wrote in his Facebook post.<\/p>\n In the case of Favors and Arts, the board chair said the company was paid GH\u00a284,000 out of which GH\u00a250,000 was obtained via sponsorship. \u201cThe other inspirations were provided by Favors and Arts for a total cost of GH\u00a284,000 out of which GH\u00a250,000 was obtained via sponsorship,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n Details of the invoice prepared by Favor and Arts in the name of the board chair as sighted by GhanaWeb indicate the company supplied and installed four Christmas Chandeliers with lights at a unit cost of GH\u00a221,000 each, bringing the total cost to GH\u00a249,000.<\/p>\n GACL was further billed GH\u00a23,500 for \u201cTransportation\/Scaffold\u201d as well as GH\u00a23,000 for \u201cAssembling\/Dissembling\u201d with the total cost for both making GH\u00a26,500.<\/p>\n This brought the entire cost for the services and supplies of both Jandel Limited and Favors Arts to GH\u00a2124,500.00.<\/p>\n![\"Kevin](\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/22051770.295.jpg\" "\\"Kevin")
