About three rooms in an old compound house at Tarkwa Na Abosso were gutted in fire this evening around 5 pm. The fire service though responded very swiftly to the call, the inaccessibility of the building considering the slum nature of the community made it very challenging for fire fighters to extinguish the fire.<\/p>\n
Residents joined personnel of the Ghana Fire Service to extend the water hose of their fire tenders to the burning compound. While they struggled to get the water hose to the scene, the occupants of the rooms were attempting to salvage some properties.<\/p>\n
But they were unlucky. The fire had grown wild and it was practically impossible to make an entry into the room let alone retrieve an item. The windows to the rooms had to be broken so the fire officers could extinguish the fire from that point.<\/p>\n

For about an hour this operation continued, drawing attention of neighbours to the scene. Many asked how the fire started. The Head of the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal Fire Service is yet to detail their findings to the public.<\/p>\n
Some residents suspected the fire to have started from the kitchen which was adjacent the rooms. Had the fire service officers delayed, several rooms could have been fitted by the fire.<\/p>\n
No estimate of the value of properties lost to the fire have been ascertained. However, the affected family are currently displaced as their belongings have all been destroyed.<\/p>\n

It is not certain if any arrangement could be done to accommodate them for about a week while they out the affected rooms back to a proper state. The Municipal Director for the National Disaster Management Organisation is informed about the situation.<\/p>\n
It is expected that some relief items would be delivered to the affected people soon to alleviate their plight. The family is however thankful there were no casualties in this accident.<\/p>\n
Their major concern now is how to get back to their feet after this loss.<\/p>\n
