Source: <\/strong>classfmonline.com<\/p>\n 2022-01-06<\/p>\n Energy Strategist Yusif Sulemana has described as immaterial the government\u2019s decision to extend the two-month suspension of the Price Stabilisation and Recovery Levy (PSRL) by one more month. <\/p>\n According to him, the extension would not significantly impact the downstream petroleum sector as developments on the world market keep soaring.<\/p>\n He argued that a three-to six-month extension would be ideal to allow the government enough room to properly plan how to safeguard the downstream sector from the effects of skyrocketing crude oil prices on the world market.<\/p>\n Speaking to Class News\u2019 Pious Kojo Backah, Dr Sulemana called on the National Petroleum Authority to map out pragmatic measures to cushion consumers from international shocks.<\/p>\n \u201cThe symbolism is excellent, but the material effect is not going to be significant,\u201d he said, arguing that \u201ca lot of it is highly dependent on what happens in the international front, and that has been what every government is struggling to cope with.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI want to urge the government and the NPA to take quick and proactive steps to come up with strategies to put in place to be able to safeguard the market especially the downstream because once the downstream goes bad then a lot of things are going to go crazy,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n He suggested that the government draw a three- to six-month roadmap to \u201cplan your government activities with the fact that you\u2019re not going to get this levy any time soon, and if it comes, fine; but I think the monthly extension is not the way to go; at least, three months or half-a-year would have been appropriate\u2026.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Business News of Thursday, 6 January 2022 Source: classfmonline.com 2022-01-06 The symbolism is excellent but the material effect is not going to be significant Energy Strategist Yusif Sulemana has described as immaterial the government\u2019s decision to extend the two-month suspension of the Price Stabilisation and Recovery Levy (PSRL) by one more month.
