There has been a twist in the case in which a woman is standing trial for allegedly faking her own kidnap and pregnancy, as two prosecution witnesses disown statements they are said to have given to the police.<\/p>\n

Josephine Panyin Mensah is standing trial at the Takoradi Harbour Circuit Court \u2018A\u2019 for publication of false news with intent to cause fear and panic and deceiving a public officer.<\/p>\n
When the case was called today, Thursday, January 6, 2022, the husband of the accused person, Michael Simons, and her mother, Agnes Essel, disowned statements they had earlier made to the police and asked the court, presided by Michael Ampadu to accept their new statements as their evidence in-chief.<\/p>\n
Michael Simons, according to the prosecution had earlier told the police that he never saw the pregnant stomach of the Josephine Panyin Mensah, before she went missing but during cross examination by the counsel for the accused person he told the court that he did see his wife\u2019s pregnant stomach.<\/p>\n

The mother of accused person, Agnes Essel, also refused to maintain any connection with her alleged earlier statement denying that he daughter was pregnant.<\/p>\n
\u201cI never told the police I had not seen the pregnant stomach of my daughter.\u201d<\/p>\n
Agnes Essel told the court about how she had gone to the Axim hospital to see that her daughter was no longer carrying her pregnancy and saw her wearing a pad when she accompanied her to the washroom.<\/p>\n
She admitted going with her to the Effia-Nkwanta hospital but explained to the court that she was not allowed to know the test conducted on her.<\/p>\n
She was only asked by the police to admit to the doctor\u2019s report. She had gone with the daughter to the doctor\u2019s room but was not allowed to see the examination that took place in a different room.<\/p>\n

She also did sit through any police interrogation.<\/p>\n
She said she was asked to agree to what the doctor had told them that my daughter was not pregnant or get detained.<\/p>\n
