The adage says that “a good name is better than riches” and generally good people who have made a positive impact on society are recognized. In honor of these individuals, great monuments and iconic places are named after them. For their deeds not to be forgotten, it is the greatest glory of the state to remember these heroes and etch their names in the annals of the country.<\/p>\n
Monuments and other special places are a vital part of any country, and to conserve them is the duty of each citizen of the country because they are precious. Moreover, the monuments are the heritage of the entire nation hence they are the humble responsibility of each citizen to protect and conserve them and not only the government.<\/p>\n
A country has the right to rename historical monuments, items, or artifacts through its official organizations and legislative procedures, it should have the right to rename anyplace as it sees fit. In any case, official names are often very different from popular names, which are much harder to change.<\/p>\n
Doumbouya as the interim President of the transition has deemed it fit to rename Guinea’s airport after its founding father and first President, Ahmed Sekouh Toureh. The airport will henceforth be called, the sekouh Toureh International Airport.<\/p>\n
However, this move has generated some controversies among the people of camp Boiro who have strongly opposed the idea citing injustice meted out to them sometime back. They have indicated that a change in name of the airport should be well-considered, and be done only for the right reasons.\u00a0<\/p>\n
A change made only for political reasons will probably backfire, or at the very least be reversed later hence they are calling for it to be overturned. The government has also responded in a letter and indicated that this is a sovereign decision and nothing will change it. It has entreated the residents to accept the decision for them to move on as a nation.<\/p>\n
