An officer of the Ghana Airforce caught on video, which went viral, firing AK 47 live rounds in the air at the A&C Mall, in East Legon, to ring in the new year is going to be punished for breaking the military service regulations. <\/p>\n

Commander Andy La-Anyane, the acting Director, Department of Public Rations of the Ghana Armed Forces, says the soldier acted unprofessionally by firing his rifle indiscriminately at a public place. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe Military High Command takes this particular incident seriously because it is unprofessional for a soldier to go to a public place and fire his rifle indiscriminately. <\/p>\n
The Command is waiting for the outcome of the investigation by the military police and then the necessary sanctions will be applied to serve as a deterrent to others.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
In the video, Flight Sergeant Nicholas Owusu Frimpong, is seen firing an AK 47 assault rifle many times in the air at the A&C Mall, in East Legon, on the midnight of Friday, December 31, 2021, to usher in the new year \u2013 2022. <\/p>\n

The police in a statement signed by Superintendent Alexander Kwaku Obeng, confirming the arrest of the military officer said it followed the collaboration between the police service and the military police. <\/p>\n
The police had earlier announced cash reward of Ghs5,000 for information leading to the arrest. <\/p>\n
According to the police, the firing of the weapon broke the law. <\/p>\n
The police say it is an offence for anybody to fire gunshots in public without \u201clawful and necessary occasion under section 209 of the criminal offences act 1960 (act 29)\u201d. <\/p>\n
An earlier statement announcing the Ghs5,000 bounty read: \u201cThe Police have intercepted a video in which a young man is seen firing several shots of a firearm suspected to be AK 47 at A&C Mall, East Legon, last night, December 31, 2021, purportedly to welcome the new year. <\/p>\n
The Police have taken a serious stance against the actions of the young man since it is a crime to discharge a firearm in public without lawful and necessary occasion.<\/p>\n
