{"id":737589,"date":"2022-01-06T13:21:14","date_gmt":"2022-01-06T13:21:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/01\/06\/sammy-gyamfis-take-on-benchmark-value-reversal\/"},"modified":"2022-01-06T13:21:14","modified_gmt":"2022-01-06T13:21:14","slug":"sammy-gyamfis-take-on-benchmark-value-reversal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/01\/06\/sammy-gyamfis-take-on-benchmark-value-reversal\/","title":{"rendered":"Sammy Gyamfi&#8217;s take on benchmark value reversal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"td-post-featured-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"464\" class=\"entry-thumb\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Sammy-Gyamfi_8-696x464.jpg\"   alt=\"\" title=\"Sammy Gyamfi_8\"\/><\/div>\n<p>National Communication Officer of the Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has called on the government to totally cancel the reversal of its Benchmark value policy.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, such a policy is unnecessary, looking at the hardship and living conditions of Ghanaians.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe policy by Akufo-Addo Bawumia\u2019 NPP government reverse benchmark value discount is draconian, and will adversely impact the living conditions of Ghanaians irrespective of one\u2019s social and political affiliation,\u201d he said in an interview.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that it will further escalate the hardships being experienced by a majority of Ghanaians.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/22191989129,1002554\/MGL\/mgl_ado_atunwa_300x250 --><\/p>\n<p>The Communication Officer further opined that the temporary suspension of the policy reversal is insignificant.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat we are seeing is that the government is redrawing the policy today to introduce it tomorrow. I mean that\u2019s abbess cosmetic, we are not interested in any such cosmetic gimmicks,\u201d he stressed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe reversal of the benchmark value is not necessary at this time,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Bawumia in April 2019 said, \u201cWithout the benchmark value discount, smuggling will be on the rise and government will lose revenue. Because our ports will not be competitive and that will affect trade volumes at our ports.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But, per Mr Gyamfi\u2019s view, the objective of the policy will not materialize.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven if the consideration for this policy is revenue mobilization which is what we know it to be. Then the reversal of Benchmark value will be counterproductive.
