The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has revealed that his government is going to give teachers in Ghana the opportunity to own houses at their preferred locations as well as build affordable housing.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the just ended Quadrennial National Delegates Conference of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) held at the KNUST auditorium in Kumasi yesterday, January 4, 2022, the first gentleman of the land stated, \u201cThrough a subsidized loan programme, teachers will be provided an opportunity to own houses in desired locations in various parts of the country,\u201d<\/p>\n

His Excellency also disclosed the reasons why he set to build about ten thousand (10,000) affordable teacher housing projects is because teachers over the past struggle to put up decent accommodation before they retire. \u201cI am fully aware that the one challenge facing teacher ownership of homes beyond finance is their inability to purchase a home where they intend to retire.\u201d He noted.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Revealing further details about the proposed affordable housing for staff members of the Ghana Education Service, the Commander In-chief of the Armed forces said that discussions are underway.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Ministry of Works and Housing is in discussion with teacher unions your own to provide more housing opportunities for teachers. Within the next two years, it is supposed that ten thousand housing units in affordable terms will be developed for teachers across the country.\u201d The President indicated.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The housing policy project is set to materialize in the next two years before he finally office as the president of Ghana and hands over to a new administration.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Reaction<\/p>\n
Teachers in time past struggle to provide decent accommodation for their family whiles in the service. Sadly, a significant number of retired teachers still live in renter apartments, compound houses whiles they battle to complete theirs.\u00a0<\/p>\n
This is because securing a mortgage from financial institutions is a herculean task due to lack of good working conditions relating to salary and other remuneration.\u00a0<\/p>\n
