{"id":1272083,"date":"2022-12-31T12:07:46","date_gmt":"2022-12-31T12:07:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/12\/31\/policeman-charged-with-murder-of-pregnant-lawyer-on-christmas-day\/"},"modified":"2022-12-31T12:07:46","modified_gmt":"2022-12-31T12:07:46","slug":"policeman-charged-with-murder-of-pregnant-lawyer-on-christmas-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/12\/31\/policeman-charged-with-murder-of-pregnant-lawyer-on-christmas-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Policeman charged with murder of pregnant lawyer on Christmas Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"td-post-featured-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"417\" class=\"entry-thumb\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Bolanle-Raheem-707x424-1-696x417.jpg\"   alt=\"\" title=\"Bolanle-Raheem-707x424\"\/><\/div>\n<p>A Nigerian police officer has been charged with murder over the shooting of a female lawyer in the main city, Lagos, on Christmas Day.<\/p>\n<p>Drambi Vandi is alleged to have shot Bolanle Raheem at close range as she and several family members were driving home from a church service.<\/p>\n<p>Many Nigerians are horrified over the killing of the lawyer, who was pregnant with twins.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/22191989129,1002554\/MGL\/mgl_ado_atunwa_300x250 --><\/p>\n<p>The Nigeria Bar Association and human rights groups have demanded justice.<\/p>\n<p>The association\u2019s Lagos branch said it would institute legal action against the police to demand $10m (\u00a38m) in compensation for Ms Raheem\u2019s family.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Vandi was remanded in custody in a magistrates\u2019 court in Lagos on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>He has not commented on the allegations and was not allowed to speak in court.<\/p>\n<p>The Lagos State prosecutor said he should remain in detention to allow the police to continue their investigations \u2013 a request accepted by the magistrate.<\/p>\n<p>The officer was suspended from duty on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Her mother was quoted by local media as saying she had worked as a hawker selling oranges so that her daughter could study law.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe was taken away from me.
