{"id":1271886,"date":"2022-12-31T01:57:23","date_gmt":"2022-12-31T01:57:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/12\/31\/mahama-pays-glowing-tribute-to-pele\/"},"modified":"2022-12-31T01:57:23","modified_gmt":"2022-12-31T01:57:23","slug":"mahama-pays-glowing-tribute-to-pele","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/12\/31\/mahama-pays-glowing-tribute-to-pele\/","title":{"rendered":"Mahama pays glowing tribute to Pele"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"td-post-featured-image\">\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"869\" class=\"entry-thumb\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Pele-696x869.jpg\"   alt=\"\" title=\"Pele\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Pele <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>Former President John Mahama has extended commiserations to the family of Brazilian football legend, Pele following his demise. <\/p>\n<p>Mr Mahama has lauded Pele was one of the greatest footballers that ever lived, beautified the game and iconised the No. 10 shirt.<\/p>\n<p>Born Edson Arantes do Nascimento, the greatest footballer passed on on December 29, 2022.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/22191989129,1002554\/MGL\/mgl_ado_atunwa_300x250 --><\/p>\n<p>He was 82 years.<\/p>\n<p>He had been suffering with\u00a0kidney and prostate problems\u00a0in recent years.<\/p>\n<p>Pele had surgery to\u00a0remove a tumour from his colon in September 2021\u00a0at the Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo, after the tumour was detected in routine tests.<\/p>\n<p>In a Facebook post, the former President said he [Pele] inspired many as children, some of whom grew up to become great footballers. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe also was an icon for those of us who never got round to mastering the game.
