{"id":1271860,"date":"2022-12-31T00:02:16","date_gmt":"2022-12-31T00:02:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/12\/31\/grasag-rejects-increment-in-university-fees\/"},"modified":"2022-12-31T00:02:16","modified_gmt":"2022-12-31T00:02:16","slug":"grasag-rejects-increment-in-university-fees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/12\/31\/grasag-rejects-increment-in-university-fees\/","title":{"rendered":"GRASAG rejects increment in university fees"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The Graduate Students\u2019 Association of Ghana (GRASAG) is rejecting the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission\u2019s (GTEC) 15% increment in fees in all public universities for the 2022\/23 academic year.<\/p>\n<p>GTEC last week directed tertiary institutions to review fees for the next academic year by a maximum 15 percent increment.<\/p>\n<p>A statement issued by GRASAG said, \u201cGRASAG members all over the country have been hit hard by the economic downturn, and an increase in university fees, we believe will exacerbate the situation\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>According to GRASAG, some tertiary institutions have released provisional fees above the approved 15% increment, adding that some members of the Association are likely to drop out of school over their inability to pay the fees.<\/p>\n<p>GRASAG called on the government and GTEC to engage stakeholders including student unions before implementation of the approved fees.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome universities have increased their fees above the 15% approved rate by Parliament.
