There is no argument that being a politician is a very arduous task. <\/p>\n

But the burden triplicates if you are the General Secretary of the governing party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP).<\/p>\n

The demanding aspects of the role took a tremendous toll on the family life of John Boadu. Yet, he had to\u00a0lose the position\u00a0before he realised it.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was missing a lot, I didn\u2019t even know,\u201d he told Emefa Apawu on JoyNews\u2019 The Probe <\/strong>on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Speaking publicly for the first time after his defeat, Mr Boadu said prior to losing his former job he had little interaction with his youngest son to the extent that his seven-year-old didn\u2019t know his name.<\/p>\n

\u201cWeeks ago, my son asked me \u2018Daddy are you John Boadu or Nana Akufo-Addo?\u2019 I was confused and asked him \u2018Why are you asking me such a question?\u2019<\/p>\n

He said one of his mates asked him whether his father is John Boadu or Nana Akufo-Addo. So I asked him what answer he gave and my son said he doesn\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Boadu noted that he couldn\u2019t blame the child for not knowing his name.<\/p>\n

According to him, his busy schedule left him with little or no time to spend with his son.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe [my son] sees me once in a while. In the morning some people come to my house, we have a meeting, and we leave and return in a week\u2019s time. Sometimes I return and he\u2019s gone to school so there was little interaction. So I can only imagine what my elder children went through,\u201d he recounted.<\/p>\n

Although Mr Boadu\u2019s -year-old sought to get clarity from his father, the politician saw the innocent question as a wake-up call to up his fatherly duty roles in his son\u2019s life.<\/p>\n

In view of that, Mr Boadu says he is glad to be relieved of \u201cthe kind of burden\u201d that came with the General Secretary position.<\/p>\n

While admitting that he sometimes misses his former job, he noted that now he has time to bond with his family,<\/p>\n

\u201cIf it wasn\u2019t for this defeat I wouldn\u2019t have known,\u201d he said amidst shock.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo I think all these things are God\u2019s plan to shape you in order for you to understand some things. Now I help him with his homework, I go to his PTA meetings, I get in touch with teachers and I think that we need that kind of atmosphere as well,\u201d he noted<\/p>\n

Mr Boadu lost to Justin Frimpong Koduah, alias JFK in the keenly contested election held at the Accra Sports Stadium in July 2022.<\/p>\n

JFK polled 2,857 votes to beat Mr Boadu who obtained 2,524 votes out of the total 5,556 votes cast.<\/p>\n

Before his shocking defeat, the former General Secretary of the NPP had served the position since he was appointed as acting General Secretary in 2015 and later elected as a substantive scribe for the NPP.<\/p>\n
