{"id":1270142,"date":"2022-12-23T06:21:39","date_gmt":"2022-12-23T06:21:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/12\/23\/ksh20m-worth-of-weed-set-ablaze-at-isiolo-court-grounds\/"},"modified":"2022-12-23T06:21:39","modified_gmt":"2022-12-23T06:21:39","slug":"ksh20m-worth-of-weed-set-ablaze-at-isiolo-court-grounds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/12\/23\/ksh20m-worth-of-weed-set-ablaze-at-isiolo-court-grounds\/","title":{"rendered":"Ksh20m Worth of Weed Set Ablaze At Isiolo Court Grounds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-286165\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/isiolo1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"843\" height=\"459\"\/><\/noscript>Isiolo County authorities on Wednesday destroyed Sh20 million worth of Cannabis that had been seized in Isiolo and neighbouring\u00a0regions during the last six months.<\/p>\n<p>Isiolo Chief Magistrate Lucy Mutai gave the go-ahead for the weed to be set ablaze after the conclusion of five drug trafficking cases.<\/p>\n<p>The marijuana was set on fire at the Isiolo Law Courts in an event witnessed by the magistrate herself, Nacada CEO Victor Okioma, Isiolo County Commissioner Geoffrey Omoding and County Criminal Investigations Officer Betty Chepng\u2019eno among other top government officers.<\/p>\n<div class=\"paragraph-wrapper\">\n<p>Magistrate Mutai said the Judiciary will fast-track more drug trafficking cases to ensure they are completed in time to pave the way for the destruction of the exhibits.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-286164\" alt=\"\" width=\"926\" height=\"467\" data-lazy-=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/isiolo.jpg\"\/><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-286164\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/isiolo.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"926\" height=\"467\"\/><\/noscript><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"paragraph-wrapper\">\n<p>\u201cWe will continue applying the law (as required) in dealing with cases related to drug trafficking in our efforts to either end the business or bring it to a snail\u2019s pace because it has really ruined the lives of our youths,\u201d Ms Mutai said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"paragraph-wrapper\">\n<p>Okioma said the destruction of Cannabis was meant to discourage dealers from the illegal business which he said had ruined the lives of many youths.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"paragraph-wrapper\">\n<p>\u201cWe appreciate the court for the support in offloading bhang consignments held in stores which shows the government\u2019s commitment to eradicating the vice,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Okioma also lauded the police for their effort to seize Cannabis in transit from neighboring Ethiopia.<\/p>\n<p>Isiolo County Commissioner Geoffrey Omoding mentioned that security officers are now using drones, especially along the notorious Yamicha \u2013 Merti route to monitor and track any suspicious activity.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Isiolo County authorities on Wednesday destroyed Sh20 million worth of Cannabis that had been seized in Isiolo and neighbouring\u00a0regions during the last six months.
