{"id":1268570,"date":"2022-12-21T17:29:20","date_gmt":"2022-12-21T17:29:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/12\/21\/cpa-wants-guta-to-reduce-prices-as-quickly-as-they-increased-them\/"},"modified":"2022-12-21T17:29:20","modified_gmt":"2022-12-21T17:29:20","slug":"cpa-wants-guta-to-reduce-prices-as-quickly-as-they-increased-them","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/12\/21\/cpa-wants-guta-to-reduce-prices-as-quickly-as-they-increased-them\/","title":{"rendered":"CPA wants GUTA to reduce prices as quickly as they increased them"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"td-post-featured-image\">\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"424\"  alt=\"\" title=\"Market-in-Ghana-640x424\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Market-in-Ghana-640x424-1.png\" data- class=\"entry-thumb td-modal-image lazyload\"\/><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"424\" class=\"entry-thumb td-modal-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Market-in-Ghana-640x424-1.png\"   alt=\"\" title=\"Market-in-Ghana-640x424\"\/><\/noscript><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Eastern Region recorded the highest rate of inflation among all the regions, according to the Government Statistician<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>Executive Secretary for Consumer Protection Agency (CPA) Kofi Kapito has descended heavily on members of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) for being adamant in reducing price of commodities despite economic recovery efforts by the government.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>His comments come after government efforts in mitigating the cost of fuel and the depreciation of the Cedi to the Dollar.<\/p>\n<p>Business owners hiked prices of goods and services due to the combined effect of Cedi depreciation and increases in international crude oil prices.<\/p>\n<p>The situation impacted negatively on livelihoods and exacerbated the cost of living in the country.<\/p>\n<p>However, the Cedi has received a big boost against the major foreign exchanges.<\/p>\n<p>This is as a result of government\u2019s effort to aid the growth of local businesses and sustain livelihoods.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, this has not reflected on prices of goods and services in the market.<\/p>\n<p>Kofi Kapito, who was addressing the media on Tuesday, December 20, described the attitude of the traders as unfair, shady and unhealthy for Ghana\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n<p>He has demanded transport unions and GUTA members to use the same speed and alacrity to increase prices to reverse prices of commodities downwards.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are operating in a free market so the CPA understands and appreciates the importers, retailers and transport unions but that doesn\u2019t give them the advantage to not adhere to the same principles when it favours them and when it favours the consumer there shouldn\u2019t be a challenge.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI urge businesses to consider this to encourage free flow of commerce in the country because the worst situation is for consumers to either reduce their consumption or stop patronizing their businesses,\u201d he reiterated.<\/p>\n<p>He has maintained that it is only fair that the government\u2019s effort in mitigating the cost of fuel and stabilizing the cedi would reflect in the prices of goods and commodities.<\/p>\n<p>He affirmed that the CPA will continue to engage the traders to reduce the prices of goods significantly to cushion consumers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>By Maxwell Otoo|Onua FM|3news.com|Ghana<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Eastern Region recorded the highest rate of inflation among all the regions, according to the Government Statistician Executive Secretary for Consumer Protection Agency (CPA) Kofi Kapito has descended heavily on members of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) for being adamant in reducing price of commodities despite economic recovery efforts by the government.
