{"id":1267305,"date":"2022-12-19T06:06:08","date_gmt":"2022-12-19T06:06:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/12\/19\/general-mosquito-wears-war-smock-gets-thunderous-applause-at-ndc-congress\/"},"modified":"2022-12-19T06:06:08","modified_gmt":"2022-12-19T06:06:08","slug":"general-mosquito-wears-war-smock-gets-thunderous-applause-at-ndc-congress","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/12\/19\/general-mosquito-wears-war-smock-gets-thunderous-applause-at-ndc-congress\/","title":{"rendered":"General Mosquito wears \u201cwar smock\u201d; gets thunderous applause at NDC Congress\u00a0\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>By James Amoh Junior\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Accra, Dec. 12, GNA \u2013 Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia a.k.a General Mosquito, aspiring National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) drew rousing applause at the party\u2019s National Delegates Congress clad in a \u201cWar Smock\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As he exchanged pleasantries with delegates and party supporters, weaving through the stands and football pitch, Mr Aseidu Nketia waved at the jubilant supporters, many of whom shouted in approval of his bid.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Clad in a black \u201cwar smock\u201d with patches of NDC colours (red, white, and green) on a black pair of trouser and black shoe to match, usual of him at such big party functions, the outgoing General Secretary auspiciously walked around the stadium amidst chants.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Such war smocks, a Native of Tamale and party supporter, Ibrahim Mohammed told the Ghana News Agency foretells victory but also shows a propitious omen for \u201cThe General\u201d as he seeks to become National Chairman and a possible victory for the NDC in 2024.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The General Secretary also wore a \u201cDagbon hat\u201d to match his war smock \u2013 an identity of the Dagombas of the Northern Region, who mostly wear smocks with Dagbon hats.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ibrahim Mohammed says in the North, a smock is not just a daily apparel, but it shows one\u2019s status in society.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to him, it seems self-demeaning for an aged person to walk bareheaded or attend an event without a Dagbon hat over his head.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Certain hats are a reserve of particular class of individuals in society which requires that some care be taken when wearing such hats.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mr Aseidu Nketia\u2019s Dagbon hat which had some patches of what looked like a talisman stitched to it, is called the \u201cZu\u0263upili Saba\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In the Dagbon Kingdom, the Zu\u0263upili Saba is worn by people for special protection, and mostly among the elderly and powerful in society.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>General Mosquito\u2019s hat, folded atop to the left, was his way of telling the delegates and party supporters that he is a humble man with no intention to foment trouble.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mr Aseidu Nketia, in an interview in the run-up to the 2016 election, said his wearing of such political war smocks was a demonstration that the party was ready for the political battle.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He said it did not connote violence and that political contests in the country were about ideas.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As a testament, Mr Asiedu Nketia, aspiring National Chairman, speaking at the party\u2019s 10<sup>th<\/sup> National Delegates Congress in Accra, called for total unity in the party to win the 2024 elections.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe cannot win the impending elections with a divided front.
