I will, after all, not be returning as Superman,\u201d Cavill said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn\u2019t the easiest, but that\u2019s life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said there were no hard feelings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that,\u201d he continued, in\u00a0his Instagram post.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJames and Peter have a universe to build. I wish them and all involved with the new universe the best of luck, and the happiest of fortunes.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-captioned=\"\" data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CmK7eLWJ0as\/?utm_source=ig_embed&#038;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\" style=\" background:#FFF; border:0; border-radius:3px; box-shadow:0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width:540px; min-width:326px; padding:0; width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);\"\/>\n<p>Gunn and Safran took over DC Studios in late October, just after Cavill made a surprise appearance as the Man of Steel during the credits of the Dwayne Johnson film Black Adam.<\/p>\n<p>The British actor then posted a video\u00a0telling fans: \u201cI wanted to make it official, that I am back as Superman.\u201d The Black Adam cameo was \u201cjust a very small taste of things to come\u201d, he added.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"James-Bond-speculation\">James Bond speculation<\/h2>\n<p>Cavill played the legendary role in the 2013 Man Of Steel film, as well as in 2016\u2019s Batman v Superman alongside Ben Affleck, and in Justice League the following year.<\/p>\n<p>Following the announcement, some fans have been speculating that the actor is now available to take on the role of James Bond \u2013 should the casting director come calling.<\/p>\n<p>Cavill, 39, also announced his departure from Netflix\u2019s The Witcher in late October. He will be replaced by Liam Hemsworth.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JamesGunn\/status\/1603205518113140737\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gunn wrote on Twitter<\/a>: \u201cPeter and I have a DC slate ready to go, which we couldn\u2019t be more over-the-moon about; we\u2019ll be able to share some exciting information about our first projects at the beginning of the new year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmong those on the slate is Superman.
