{"id":1265183,"date":"2022-12-14T18:27:10","date_gmt":"2022-12-14T18:27:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/12\/14\/utag-suspends-strike-indefinitely\/"},"modified":"2022-12-14T18:27:10","modified_gmt":"2022-12-14T18:27:10","slug":"utag-suspends-strike-indefinitely","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/12\/14\/utag-suspends-strike-indefinitely\/","title":{"rendered":"UTAG Suspends Strike Indefinitely &#8211;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<article>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/fc3f015bb2f548b38eec7624dcf84bf6\" height=\"365\" width=\"550\"\/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">The University Teachers\u2019 Association of Ghana(UTAG) has indefinitely suspended its strike action after reaching an agreement with the government.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">UTAG and three labour unions went on strike on Monday, October 17, 2022,\u00a0 to compel the government to settle an outstanding online teaching support allowance(OTSA) and non-payroll allowances.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">Meanwhile, the unions have asked the government to settle the payment of the book and research allowance for 2022 and implement the agreement reached in March on the implementation of market premium or review the Single Spine Salary Structure in 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">The president of UTAG, Professor Solomon Nunoo, said on the Asaase Breakfast Show that they reached an agreement with the government and will return to work, but it is an indefinite suspension.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">\u201cAn agreement has been reached, and we will naturally return to work. It is an indefinite suspension of our industrial action.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">They also expect the government to make the first payment as a part of their salary agreed upon this month.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">\u201cWe believe that it is important that there is harmony on the campuses, and it is for this reason that we should be seen in the offices very soon to serve our students in the various institutions,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">Professor Solomon Nunoo continued to say that there is hardship in the country, and the government has admitted it was not fair to introduce the conditions of service without first engaging them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">It can be recalled that UTAG began their strike on Monday, October 17, 2022, to compel the government to improve conditions of service.
