{"id":1264930,"date":"2022-12-14T03:27:30","date_gmt":"2022-12-14T03:27:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/12\/14\/sec-promises-reliefs-to-investors-over-debt-exchange-programme\/"},"modified":"2022-12-14T03:27:30","modified_gmt":"2022-12-14T03:27:30","slug":"sec-promises-reliefs-to-investors-over-debt-exchange-programme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/12\/14\/sec-promises-reliefs-to-investors-over-debt-exchange-programme\/","title":{"rendered":"SEC promises reliefs to investors over Debt Exchange Programme"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"td-post-featured-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"362\"  alt=\"\" title=\"Securities-and-Exchange-Commission-1-721x375\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/1663165493_743_Securities-and-Exchange-Commission-1-721x375-1-696x362.jpg\" data- class=\"entry-thumb td-modal-image lazyload\"\/><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"362\" class=\"entry-thumb td-modal-image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/1663165493_743_Securities-and-Exchange-Commission-1-721x375-1-696x362.jpg\"   alt=\"\" title=\"Securities-and-Exchange-Commission-1-721x375\"\/><\/noscript><\/div>\n<p><strong>The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has announced some reliefs to support the securities and exchange market as government concludes discussions on the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Programme, which was launched on Monday, December 5, is expected to be fully implemented from Monday, December 19.<\/p>\n<p>As the regulator in the securities and exchange industry, SEC has announced reliefs to investors as it anticipates the impact of the Programme on market operators.<\/p>\n<p>The Commission says it will offer regulatory capital forbearance for market operators whose capital will be impaired because of the Programme, asking those who require such forbearance to apply accordingly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe SEC shall intervene further with other measures where it becomes necessary,\u201d it said in a circular dated Friday, December 9, 2022.<\/p>\n<p>It indicated that \u201cother regulatory reliefs or exemptions may be considered by the SEC in the light of new and unanticipated developments in the market\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>SEC indicated that it is providing these reliefs because it has supports the government\u2019s efforts in stabilising the economy, and to be precise the rollout of the Programme.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">The SEC is aware of the need for the DDEP as explained by the Ministry of Finance and the<\/span><br role=\"presentation\"\/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">consideration that participation will enhance Government\u2019s ability to attain a Debt to GDP ratio of <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">55% by 2028 among other benefits to the economy. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u201cThe SEC appreciates the importance of a stable <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">macroeconomic environment to the growth and development of Ghana\u2019s capital market and is <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">therefore supportive of Government\u2019s efforts to stabilize Ghana\u2019s economy and the fiscal position with<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the proposed initiative.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Commission assured all investors, and by extension the general public that \u201c<span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">it is committed to ensuring rigorous<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">enforcement of all the rules for players in the capital market, in order to ensure an efficient, fair and<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">transparent securities market in which investors and the integrity of the market are protected\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"twitter-follow-button\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/kwame_amoh?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" data-show-count=\"false\">Follow @kwame_amoh<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has announced some reliefs to support the securities and exchange market as government concludes discussions on the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme.
