Accra, Dec. 3, GNA \u2013 Some\u00a0upset\u00a0customers whose SIM cards and Momo accounts have been blocked\u00a0since Thursday besiege MTN office at Darkumam Junction in Accra.\u00a0<\/p>\n
They said they could not access any of the services of MTN and were worried.\u00a0<\/p>\n
This comes after the Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, \u00a0Minister of Communications, announced that all\u00a0unregistered SIM cards will be deactivated by the November 30, 2022.\u00a0<\/p>\n
A total of 18.9 million (18,930,664) SIM Cards have been fully registered as of October 4, 2022 in accordance with the SIM Registration directives and the process, which commenced on October 1, 2021.<\/p>\n
Some customers failed to meet the deadline, which was extended twice.\u00a0<\/p>\n
As at 0900 hours, when the Ghana News Agency ( GNA) visited the MTN office, it was crowded with\u00a0customers demanding for it to be opened to them by the workers who had locked themselves in\u00a0since they arrived to work.\u00a0<\/p>\n
A customer, who pleaded anonymity,\u00a0alleged\u00a0that some of the customers had been at the office as early as\u00a00100 hours in the morning but the workers walked past\u00a0them and entered the office.\u00a0<\/p>\n
She said some of the workers came out later and asked them to form a queue so they could attend\u00a0to them but the customers refused because they suspected a mischief.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cIf it was not for mischief they would have opened the office before 9am but it is over 10am and\u00a0they have not opened the office,\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Another young customer said some of the workers who had come out today told them that nothing\u00a0could be done about the blocked SIMs at that moment.\u00a0<\/p>\n
A\u00a0police officer,\u00a0who the GNA\u00a0learned\u00a0was\u00a0detailed\u00a0there, tried to control the crowd until\u00a0another one who said he was from the headquarters\u00a0when\u00a0he addressed the crowd, arrived.\u00a0<\/p>\n
One of the workers came out to talk to the customers and assured that they would attend to those\u00a0who wanted to obtain new SIM cards but issues of blocked SIMs would be dealt with on Monday,\u00a0December 5, because the network was poor.\u00a0<\/p>\n
After the announcement, the policemen ensured that the customers were in a queue to be attended\u00a0to.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The SIM cards registration\u00a0is part of measures to reduce SIM-related fraud in the\u00a0country.\u00a0<\/p>\n
