{"id":1260081,"date":"2022-11-30T15:20:17","date_gmt":"2022-11-30T15:20:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/11\/30\/imf-team-returns-in-december-for-next-round-of-negotiations\/"},"modified":"2022-11-30T15:20:17","modified_gmt":"2022-11-30T15:20:17","slug":"imf-team-returns-in-december-for-next-round-of-negotiations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/11\/30\/imf-team-returns-in-december-for-next-round-of-negotiations\/","title":{"rendered":"IMF team returns in December for next round of negotiations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/1668828536_ken_ofori_atta_9.jpg\" alt=\"IMF team returns in December for next round of negotiations\" class=\" bd-imagestyles-16\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\nIMF team returns in December for next round of negotiations <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h2>A team from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is expected in the country next week to continue negotiations with the government towards closing a support programmed to the economy.<\/h2>\n<p>The team, which will be led by the IMF Mission Chief to Ghana, St\u00e9phane Roudet, will be in the country from December 1 to 13, 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The fund said in a statement released Wednesday that the team will continue discussions with the authorities on the country\u2019s post-COVID programme for economic growth and associated policies and reforms that could be supported by a new IMF lending arrangement.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;IMF staff will also further engage with other stakeholders during the visit,&#8221; the fund.<\/p>\n<p>Ghana requested a fund-assisted programmed in July after the cedi came under intense pressure and inflation soared to record highs.<\/p>\n<p>As of October this year, inflation was reported at 40.4 per cent and the cedi had lost more that 54 epr cent of its value to the US dollar.<\/p>\n<p>A debt restructuring exercise is currently ongoing to bring the debt to sustainable levels to allow for the fund-assisted programme.<\/p>\n<p>Since the request about three IMF Missions have the country for discussions and similar meetings have been held in Washingtin D.C. in USA.<br \/>Ghana can get up to $3 billion in funding under a three-year programme.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Roudet said in the statement that the IMF have had productive discussions with the Ghanaian authorities over the last few months and looked forward to the impending one in Accra.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur objective for this visit is to make further progress toward reaching agreement on policies and reforms that could be supported by an IMF lending arrangement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe IMF remains fully committed to help Ghana restore macroeconomic stability, bring relief to Ghanaians in this time of crisis, and lay the foundation for more inclusive growth,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><script type=\"89d994344fd7f7ba373bfc0d-text\/javascript\">\n!function(f,b,e,v,n,t,s){if(f.fbq)return;n=f.fbq=function(){n.callMethod?\nn.callMethod.apply(n,arguments):n.queue.push(arguments)};if(!f._fbq)f._fbq=n;\nn.push=n;n.loaded=!0;n.version='2.0';n.queue=[];t=b.createElement(e);t.async=!0;\nt.src=v;s=b.getElementsByTagName(e)[0];s.parentNode.insertBefore(t,s)}(window,\ndocument,'script','https:\/\/connect.facebook.net\/en_US\/fbevents.js');\nfbq('init', '771749920311523', {}, {agent: 'pljoomla'});\nfbq('track', 'PageView');\n<\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>IMF team returns in December for next round of negotiations A team from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is expected in the country next week to continue negotiations with the government towards closing a support programmed to the economy.
