Fatoumata Doro, the managing director of\u00a0Tex Styles Ghana Ltd,\u00a0has said operating a\u00a0textile\u00a0business is extremely difficult.<\/p>\n
\u201cVlisco is very well known same as\u00a0GTP\u00a0and Woodin, but financially we\u2019re struggling because the textile business is extremely difficult,\u201d Doro told Nana Yaa Mensah on the\u00a0Sunday Night\u00a0programme on\u00a0Asaase 99.5 Accra\u00a0on Sunday (28 November).<\/p>\n
\u201cIf you look back 20 years ago, we use to have more than 15 textile companies in Ghana.<\/p>\n
\u201cToday, you are left with only three of them, they have all collapsed because it\u2019s extremely difficult to run a textile business in Africa for different reasons,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Beware of fake copies
\u201cThe main one is the copies. The Chinese copies are very strong on the market, and they have improved over the years in copying our logos, they have copied our logo that you may not be able to make the difference, but the quality is not the same,\u201d Doro said.

Government intervention
The Tex Styles Ghana Ltd boss wants the government to immediately intervene to salvage the industry, especially in the face of rising inflation.

\u201cIf you take 100 pieces in the market, 70 of them may be copies, so although the brand is well known, the brand is everywhere, but the copies are killing us.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat is why we need government support, we need the government to put in the right measures to save what is left. Textile business is such a key component in any country\u2019s growth, and we are only left with three,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
