A Deputy Finance Minister has said the government\u2019s decision to reduce the e-levy rate means it is a listening government.<\/p>\n

Dr John Kumah says the government must therefore be commended for reducing the rate from 1.5% to 1%.\u00a0<\/p>\n

According to him, per data available to him, there has been 60% increment in mobile money usage.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He was speaking on JoyNews\u2019 Newsfile<\/strong> on Saturday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But he also said some telecoms operators are still not running their systems through the common platform created for the implementation of the levy.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cE-levy we all saw the commotion around its regulatory processes in terms of making the law and the impact it had (at) its implementation.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cOf course I can say per the data I have seen that there is some 60% growth in terms of the usage of MoMo and it\u2019s impacts of the revenue we are generating under e-levy.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe still have challenges because not all operators channel their system through the common platform that has been created. So a lot of compliance issues (exist) but having reduced the rate to 1% means that we are a listening government.\u201d<\/p>\n

The government hopes reducing the Electronic Transfer Levy rate from 1.5% to 1% will allow more Ghanaians to use the service.<\/p>\n

However, the daily transaction threshold of \u00a2100 has also been removed.\u00a0<\/p>\n

This was announced by the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta on Thursday, November 24, during the 2023 budget presentation.<\/p>\n
