{"id":1257426,"date":"2022-11-24T15:38:13","date_gmt":"2022-11-24T15:38:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/11\/24\/veep-endorses-use-of-gold-to-buy-oil-products\/"},"modified":"2022-11-24T15:38:13","modified_gmt":"2022-11-24T15:38:13","slug":"veep-endorses-use-of-gold-to-buy-oil-products","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/11\/24\/veep-endorses-use-of-gold-to-buy-oil-products\/","title":{"rendered":"Veep endorses use of gold to buy oil products"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Accra, Nov. 24, GNA \u2013 Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has given his full support to a proposed policy framework for the use of gold to buy oil products into Ghana.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The new policy framework is expected to be operational by the end of the first quarter of 2023.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He said the barter of gold for oil represented a major structural change of the economy.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In a post on his Facebook wall on Thursday, Dr Bawumia wrote: \u201cThe demand for foreign exchange by oil importers in the face of dwindling foreign exchange reserves results in the depreciation of the cedi and increases in the cost of living with higher prices for fuel, transportation, utilities, etc\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo address this challenge, the Government is negotiating a new policy regime where our gold (rather than our US dollar reserves) will be used to buy oil products.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe barter of sustainably mined gold for oil is one of the most important economic policy changes in Ghana since independence.
