Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, has urged Ghanaians to be hopeful and trust the government\u2019s economic policies that he believes will put the country on the path to recovery.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe challenges we face are da<\/span><\/span>unting, but<\/span><\/span>\u00a0we must not<\/span><\/span> lose sight of the greatest strength <\/span><\/span>of being Ghanaian: resilience, entrepreneurial zeal, faith, courage, solidarity and hope. <\/span><\/span>I, therefore, ask all of us to play a constructive role in getting our nation fully back on <\/span><\/span>track,\u201d Mr Ofori-Atta said on Thursday when he presented the 2023 Budget and Economic Policy to Parliament He added, \u201cOurs is<\/span><\/span> a country with real prospects and the challenges notwithstanding, Ghana <\/span><\/span>will rise again, and my faith is premised on the fact that a lot has already been achieved, <\/span><\/span>especially over the course of the Fourth Republic and our policy, as outlined in this <\/span><\/span>budget<\/span><\/span> to reset the economy, if supported will ensure that, indeed, we have not wasted <\/span><\/span>the current global crisis but used it to make our economy stronger and the progress <\/span><\/span>and prosperity of our people even more assured.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Mr Ofori-Atta among other things announced the increase of VAT rate by 2.5 percent<\/span> to directly support Ghana\u2019s roads and <\/span>dig<\/span>italization agenda<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n The government will also f<\/span>ast<\/span>\u2013<\/span>track<\/span> the<\/span> implementation<\/span> of<\/span> the<\/span> Unified<\/span> Property<\/span> Rate<\/span> Platform <\/span>programme in 2023; and<\/span><\/span> review the E<\/span>\u2013<\/span>Levy Act<\/span> and, more specifically,<\/span> reduce the headline rate<\/span> from <\/span>1.5%<\/span> to<\/span> one per cent<\/span> (1%)<\/span> of the transaction value<\/span> as well as the<\/span> removal <\/span>of the daily threshold.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n The budget is a constitutional exercise to be carried out by the Finance Minister on behalf of the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.<\/p>\n \u201cIn accordance with Article 179 of the 1992 Constitution and section 21 of the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921) the Minister for Finance will, on behalf of the President, lay before Parliament the 2023 Annual Budget Statement and Economic Policy of Government on Thursday, 24th November 2022,\u201d a statement from the Finance Ministry announced.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, has urged Ghanaians to be hopeful and trust the government\u2019s economic policies that he believes will put the country on the path to recovery. \u201cThe challenges we face are daunting, but\u00a0we must not lose sight of the greatest strength of being Ghanaian: resilience, entrepreneurial zeal, faith, courage, solidarity and hope.
