{"id":1256986,"date":"2022-11-24T06:07:53","date_gmt":"2022-11-24T06:07:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/11\/24\/ofori-atta-to-present-2023-budget-in-parliament-today\/"},"modified":"2022-11-24T06:07:53","modified_gmt":"2022-11-24T06:07:53","slug":"ofori-atta-to-present-2023-budget-in-parliament-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/11\/24\/ofori-atta-to-present-2023-budget-in-parliament-today\/","title":{"rendered":"Ofori-Atta to present 2023 budget in Parliament today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Embattled Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta will today, November 24, 2022, present the government\u2019s 2023 Annual Budget Statement and Economic Policy to Parliament.<\/p>\n<p>This is a constitutional exercise to be carried out by the Finance Minister on behalf of the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn accordance with Article 179 of the 1992 Constitution and section 21 of the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921) the Minister for Finance will, on behalf of the President, lay before Parliament the 2023 Annual Budget Statement and Economic Policy of Government on Thursday, 24th November 2022,\u201d a statement from the Finance Ministry announced.<\/p>\n<p>The budget according to the Ministry of Finance will focus on government\u2019s strategies to restore and stabilize the macro economy, build resilience and promote inclusive growth and value creation.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Ofori -Atta\u2019s continued clinging to the Finance Ministry has sparked massive disaffection in recent times, with some 95 New Patriotic Party Members of Parliament asking for his dismissal.<\/p>\n<p>He is currently also going through a vote of censure probe by an 8-member ad-hoc Committee probing some 7 alleged financial malfeasance against him.<\/p>\n<p>The Minority Caucus has also accused him of financial dishonesty and pitched him against a missing $100 million crude oil revenue, which has been corroborated by the Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC).<\/p>\n<p>Following threats by some Majority MPs to boycott the budget reading, the leadership of the New Patriotic Party subsequently stepped in to resolve the impasse.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><div class=\"youtube-embed\" data-video_id=\"QafkdyX1A48\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Ashanti Region residents react to the 2021 budget reading | Citi Newsroom\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/QafkdyX1A48?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Embattled Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta will today, November 24, 2022, present the government\u2019s 2023 Annual Budget Statement and Economic Policy to Parliament.
