But since the NDC left office in 2017, the project has been mired in controversy with two former government officials being prosecuted.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, the Works and Housing Minister, Francis Asenso Boakye announced plans to privatise the project.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-myjoyonline-com wp-block-embed-myjoyonline-com\"\/>\n<p>But speaking during a tour of the facility on Tuesday, the Minority Spokesperson for Works and Housing, Vincent Oppong Asamoah warned government to ditch the privatisation efforts.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the project is viable therefore \u201cgovernment should be compelled to look for funds to complete the project instead of privatisation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This, he said should be the task of Parliament\u2019s Works and Housing Committee.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"100%\" height=\"300\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"no\" allow=\"autoplay\" src=\"https:\/\/w.soundcloud.com\/player\/?url=https%3A\/\/api.soundcloud.com\/tracks\/1388194609&#038;color=%23ff5500&#038;auto_play=false&#038;hide_related=false&#038;show_comments=true&#038;show_user=true&#038;show_reposts=false&#038;show_teaser=true&#038;visual=true\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Mr Oppong Asamoah stated that the problem with the project stems from the government\u2019s refusal to prioritise the housing project despite borrowing numerous times.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor six years this government decided that this project should be left in the bush and if you look around, the thievery that has happened here so that at the end of it, they will have the opportunity to sell it to their cronies and they take it cheaply,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He threatened that any private developer that would partner with government to complete the project will be kicked out if the NDC comes to power in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe wouldn\u2019t want any private developer to come in at all \u2026 because it should remain affordable,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DISCLAIMER: <\/strong>The Views, Comments, Opinions, Contributions and Statements made by Readers and Contributors on this platform do not necessarily represent the views or policy of Multimedia Group Limited.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Minority in Parliament has cautioned the government to discard its plan to sell off the abandoned Saglemi Housing project.
