\n\u2022 Students of ATTC donating blood <\/p>\n<\/div>\n
SIC Life Insurance LTD, in collaboration with the National Blood Service (NBS), has organised a blood donation exercise in Accra.<\/h2>\n
The exercise held at the Accra Technical Training Centre (ATTC), saw students donating blood to support the National Blood Bank.<\/p>\n
At the donation exercise last Thursday, the Head of Corporate Affairs for SIC Life Insurance, Albert Bahum-Wilson, said the exercise formed part of the Insurance Industry Blood Donation and the commitment of the insurance industry players in the country to saving lives.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are here to donate blood to serve the blood bank. Last year, the Blood Bank paid a courtesy call on insurance industry players for blood donation to help stock the Blood Bank,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The exercise, he said, was an annual event, which started last year with corporate institutions embarking on voluntary blood donation, as well as stock blood to save more lives.<\/p>\n
He said this year\u2019s exercise was focusing more on the second cycle institutions as they were more vibrant and healthier.<\/p>\n
He added that the exercise fell in line with the outfit’s values, adding that \u201cwe will continue to partner with the NBS to save more lives\u201d.<\/p>\n
The Principal Blood Donor Recruitment Officer at the NBS, Sophia Blankson, said the exercise was expected to generate about 100 pints of blood.<\/p>\n
She explained that between 300 and 400 units of blood were used daily; hence, there was a need to store sufficient blood for emergency purposes.<\/p>\n
\u201cNo matter how much blood we always have available, we need to store more due to emergency cases in our hospitals,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
