{"id":1253089,"date":"2022-11-18T06:08:51","date_gmt":"2022-11-18T06:08:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/11\/18\/ofori-atta-to-appear-before-censure-committee-today\/"},"modified":"2022-11-18T06:08:51","modified_gmt":"2022-11-18T06:08:51","slug":"ofori-atta-to-appear-before-censure-committee-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/11\/18\/ofori-atta-to-appear-before-censure-committee-today\/","title":{"rendered":"Ofori-Atta to appear before censure committee today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The Minister for Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, is expected to appear before the eight-member ad-hoc committee of Parliament probing a censure motion against him today, Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The Minority in Parliament filed a motion for a vote of censure against Ken Ofori-Atta making seven allegations against the minister including conflict of interest, financial recklessness leading to the collapse of the Ghana Cedi and gross mismanagement of the economy.<\/p>\n<p>The minister in a written request, prior to the hearing, sought further and better particulars on the grounds for the motion while raising questions over the committee\u2019s jurisdiction.<\/p>\n<p>After the first day of the hearing, where the Minority explained the basis for the censure, the legal counsel for the under-fire Minister, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, told the Committee that his client will be ready with the responses today.<\/p>\n<p>The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, set up the ad-hoc committee on November 10 to probe the motion.<\/p>\n<p>The committee on Tuesday heard from the Minority, represented by the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu and, Minority Spokesperson on Finance, Cassiel Ato Forson, who are the proponents of the motion.<\/p>\n<p>This was followed by the Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC) and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) appearing before the committee on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p><div class=\"youtube-embed\" data-video_id=\"STzQ9ZYmyq8\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Censure motion hearing: PIAC confirmd withdrawal of $100m by Government\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/STzQ9ZYmyq8?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Minister for Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, is expected to appear before the eight-member ad-hoc committee of Parliament probing a censure motion against him today, Friday.
