My name is Fati Umar from Aboabo, I am 23 years old and I started dating my boyfriend 9 years ago. I met my friend Basit at the pool side when I was 14, he proposed to me at the time, I too accepted the proposal and started chatting with him. When I first visited this man, his mother beat me and said I was too young to date her son.<\/p>\n

From that day, I changed my mind to forget him, but he came to apologize on behalf of his mother. I accepted and gradually developed love for him. A few years into our relationship, Basit began to beat me and also denied me infront of his friends. After I got pregnant, this man told me that he wasn’t ready to be a father at the time, he convinced me to abort the baby.<\/p>\n

I was afraid to do it because of the complications I will have after the abortion. Due to this fear, I kept the pregnancy, but my boyfriend later told me that he will never take responsibility for the pregnancy if I don’t do the abortion. However, I did not listen to the advice he gave me, but decided to give birth.<\/p>\n

Even though my grandmother whom I was living with was very angry with me for getting pregnant at the tender age but she didn’t neglect me, she took care of me\u00a0till I gave birth. Now we are facing financial problems and I have been selling water on the street to care for myself and the child whilst Basit is moving around freely. I want my boyfriend to start supporting me financially to cater for our child.<\/p>\n
