NFL\u00a0free agent wide receiver\u00a0Odell Beckham Jr. is suing\u00a0Nike, claiming that the sneaker company tricked him out of more than\u00a0$20 million, according to\u00a0TMZ Sports<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Beckham, 30, claims that he considered signing with\u00a0Adidas\u00a0in 2017 when his Nike deal expired.<\/p>\n

He states that Nike agreed to match the Adidas deal, but that the fine print was different, making it nearly impossible for\u00a0Beckham\u00a0to get a valuable contract extension in the future.<\/p>\n

Beckam claims his relationship with Nike became complicated when the company withheld over\u00a0$2 million\u00a0of his\u00a0$2.6 million\u00a0payment without notice in\u00a0March 2022.<\/p>\n

Nike reportedly withheld the money because OBJ violated equipment regulations by altering his cleats and gloves towards the end of last season.<\/p>\n

Beckham says the company had never had any issues with him doing that before and that he was forced to do so because Nike didn\u2019t provide him with cleats that matched the colors of the\u00a0Los Angeles Rams.<\/p>\n

OBJ released a statement Monday explaining why he is suing Nike.<\/p>\n

\u201cBeing a Nike Athlete and Brand Icon was a dream I\u2019ve had since being a young boy. I wanted to be the next\u00a0Michael Jordan,\u00a0Bo Jackson,\u00a0LeBron James\u00a0or\u00a0Kobe Bryant\u00a0in the Nike Family,\u201d Beckham wrote. <\/p>\n

\u201cWhen Nike exercised its right of first refusal to match the Adidas offer and not only kept me as a Nike Athlete, but also made me one of their Brand Icons \u2013 my dream had been fulfilled.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnfortunately, Nike did not honor its commitments. Throughout our partnership, I have kept my promise and fulfilled my obligations to the brand. I am extremely disappointed that I\u2019ve had to take these measures to ensure Nike fulfills their obligations and promises.\u201d<\/p>\n

The lawsuit, filed by Beckham\u2019s attorney,\u00a0Daniel Davillier, states that the\u00a0NFL\u00a0star wants to collect $20 million.<\/p>\n
