Dave Chappelle<\/strong><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Dave Chappelle\u2019s comments about the Jewish community\u00a0during his \u201cSaturday Night Live\u201d monologue\u00a0are being slammed as antisemitic.<\/p>\n Anti-Defamation League chief executive officer Jonathan Greenblatt took to Twitter on Sunday to criticise the comedian and the NBC late night show.<\/p>\n \u201cWe shouldn\u2019t expect @DaveChappelle to serve as society\u2019s moral compass, but disturbing to see @nbcsnl not just normalise but popularise #antisemitism,\u201d\u00a0Greenblatt tweeted.\u00a0\u201cWhy are Jewish sensitivities denied or diminished at almost every turn? Why does our trauma trigger applause?\u201d<\/p>\n The controversial comic\u00a0hosted the show and addressed the\u00a0firestorm around Kanye West, who has legally changed his name to \u201cYe,\u201d following his remarks about Jewish people.<\/p>\n Chappelle began the show by reading a statement which said, \u201cI denounce antisemitism in all its forms and I stand with my friends in the Jewish community.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cAnd that, Kanye, is how you buy yourself some time,\u201d Chappelle joked.<\/p>\n He went on to say that Ye had broken \u201cthe show business rules\u201d which are \u201cthe rules of perception.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIf they\u2019re Black, then it\u2019s a gang. If they\u2019re Italian, it\u2019s a mob,\u201d Chappelle said. \u201cBut if they\u2019re Jewish, it\u2019s a coincidence and you should never speak about it.\u201d<\/p>\n Chappelle went on to talk about the abundance of Jewish people in Hollywood.<\/p>\n \u201cBut that doesn\u2019t mean anything,\u201d he said. \u201cThere\u2019s a lot of Black people in Ferguson, Missouri. Doesn\u2019t mean they run the place.\u201d<\/p>\n Chappelle said he could see \u201cif you had some kind of issue, you might go out to Hollywood and start connecting some kind of lines and you could maybe adopt the illusion that Jews run show business.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s not a crazy thing to think,\u201d he said. \u201cBut it\u2019s a crazy thing to say out loud.\u201d<\/p>\n Writer Adam Feldman\u00a0tweeted,\u00a0\u201cThat Dave Chappelle SNL monologue probably did more to normalise anti-Semitism than anything Kanye said.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cEveryone knows Kanye is nuts,\u201d\u00a0Feldman wrote. \u201cChappelle posits himself as a teller of difficult truths.
