{"id":1250901,"date":"2022-11-15T11:06:23","date_gmt":"2022-11-15T11:06:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/11\/15\/bog-overdraft-necessary-and-apt-it-helped-to-keep-govt-machinery-running-analyst\/"},"modified":"2022-11-15T11:06:23","modified_gmt":"2022-11-15T11:06:23","slug":"bog-overdraft-necessary-and-apt-it-helped-to-keep-govt-machinery-running-analyst","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/11\/15\/bog-overdraft-necessary-and-apt-it-helped-to-keep-govt-machinery-running-analyst\/","title":{"rendered":"BoG overdraft necessary and apt, it helped to keep govt machinery running &#8211; Analyst"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"td-post-featured-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"398\"  alt=\"\" title=\"Ghana-banks\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Ghana-banks-696x398.jpeg\" data- class=\"entry-thumb td-modal-image lazyload\"\/><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"398\" class=\"entry-thumb td-modal-image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Ghana-banks-696x398.jpeg\"   alt=\"\" title=\"Ghana-banks\"\/><\/noscript><\/div>\n<p>A financial analyst, Dr Amos Anim has commended the Bank of Ghana for providing financing to keep the government machinery running.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Amos Anim indicated that the BoG overdraft will go a long to help the country as the government seeks a programme under the International Monetary Fund (IMF).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a fact that, but for the Bank of Ghana (BoG) overdraft to the Ministry of Finance, payments of salaries would have been difficult.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Anim further explained that because government is paying debts, it needs funds to ensure payment of salaries.<\/p>\n<p>In his view, even Members of Parliament would not have been able to receive their salaries but for the overdraft.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWithout BOG overdraft nobody would have received salaries including parliament,\u201d he said in an exclusive interview with 3news.com on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can imagine what will happen in this country if government workers aren\u2019t paid their salaries.The BoG overdraft has ensured that no chaotic situation happens .Government machinery working smoothly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are all\u00a0 aware that the execution of the budget for the year has remained challenging. Revenue has not kept pace with projections and created financing challenges. In the absence of access to the international capital market and given the constrained domestic financing, central bank overdraft has helped to close the financing gap as reflected in the mid-year budget review,\u201d he further said in a separate write up.<\/p>\n<p>He made these comments in reaction to a press engagement by the Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central, Isaac Adongo, who accused the Bank of Ghana for financing government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHon.Adongo is a member of the Finance Committee in Parliament. I don\u2019t expect him to be making this statement. He knows and is aware of the current situation. As a member of the Finance Committee, he is\u00a0 aware of the issues. \u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHon. Adongo is aware that without BoG overdraft, he wouldn\u2019t receive salary. \u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe expect our honourable MPs to be patriotic and support initiatives that will promote the good of the people of Ghana.\u00a0 \u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c Parliament is\u00a0 in session now.
