{"id":1249452,"date":"2022-11-12T13:44:38","date_gmt":"2022-11-12T13:44:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/11\/12\/minoritys-motion-of-censure-against-ofori-atta-may-not-succeed\/"},"modified":"2022-11-12T13:44:38","modified_gmt":"2022-11-12T13:44:38","slug":"minoritys-motion-of-censure-against-ofori-atta-may-not-succeed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/11\/12\/minoritys-motion-of-censure-against-ofori-atta-may-not-succeed\/","title":{"rendered":"Minority&#8217;s motion of censure against Ofori-Atta may not succeed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The Minority\u2019s motion on vote of censure against the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta does not stand any chance of success, according to the Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga.<\/p>\n<p>According to Mr Ayariga, without the support of the Majority caucus in Parliament, it is very unlikely for the minority side to garner the needed numbers to censure the embattled Finance Minister.<\/p>\n<p>The Minority in Parliament currently made up of 136 MPs will need 183 votes for the vote of censure to succeed against the Finance Minister.<\/p>\n<p>But the Majority caucus has categorically stated that despite their calls for the dismissal of the Finance Minister, the group will not support the Minority in their quest to censure Mr Ofori-Atta.<\/p>\n<p>The position of the Majority caucus was adopted after the New Patriotic Party directed its MPs in Parliament to abstain from the vote of censure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy this directive the leadership of the Majority Caucus especially the Whips are to ensure that no Member of the Majority Caucus partakes in this exercise by the Minority Group in Parliament,\u201d the NPP said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe vote of censure is ill-intended and aimed at derailing government\u2019s efforts at resolving current socio-economic upheavals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on <strong>The Big Issue<\/strong> on <strong>Citi TV<\/strong> on Saturday, Mr Ayariga admitted that without the support of some members of the Majority side the \u201cmotion does not stand a chance of success\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The Minority in its motion for the vote of censure cited the overall mismanagement of the economy and ethical concerns, among others.<\/p>\n<p><div class=\"youtube-embed\" data-video_id=\"jBydIBuHHLY\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"We want Ofori-Atta out but we won\u2019t back NDC\u2019s motion of censure \u2013 NPP MPs\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/jBydIBuHHLY?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Minority\u2019s motion on vote of censure against the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta does not stand any chance of success, according to the Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga.
