Klikor (V\/R), Nov. 11, GNA \u2013 The Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs has conferred\u00a0traditional council status on the Somey, and Klikor traditional areas in the Ketu South Municipality\u00a0of the Volta Region.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The conferment is in line with the provisions of the Chieftaincy Act, and a total of about 17 chiefs\u00a0and queens were sworn in on the day at Somey, where the paramount chief is yet to be gazetted.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Members, which include four female rulers, would elect one from among themselves to head\u00a0the Council in the interim.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Klikor Agbozume Traditional Council had about 23 traditional rulers sworn in as members at\u00a0the inauguration, and has Togbuiga Addo VIII, as the President.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Idrisu Issah, local Magistrate, swore them in, and administered oaths of membership, judicial and\u00a0secrecy. \u00a0<\/p>\n
Madam Lily Fati Soale, Acting Chief Director of the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs,\u00a0who inaugurated the Council, said the government\u2019s advanced the Traditional Council statuses to\u00a0help realise the needed community development.\u00a0<\/p>\n
She said the Council would pave the way for the establishment of necessary structures, including\u00a0committees, and appealed to traditional leaders to work \u201chand in hand\u201d to help realize the ideals.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Acting Chief Director said leaders on the Council must therefore keep pace with processes\u00a0and procedures of land administration and be abreast with the various dispute resolution tools\u00a0aligned to the Chieftaincy Act, for effective delivery on the mandate.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThe inauguration should be seen to integrate the people of this traditional area, especially our\u00a0revered Chief to work hand in hand for endless development but not to disintegrate you,\u201d she\u00a0said, and reiterating the Ministry\u2019s resolve to provide the needed staff and training for the Council.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Harry Attipoe, Registrar of the Volta Region House of Chiefs, said membership of the Council only\u00a0merited gazetted chiefs, and that others would be sworn into the Council when duly recognized.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Togbuiga Addo, Paramount Chief of the Klikor Traditional Area and President of the Council, said\u00a0this event was the culmination of an \u201cenormous collective effort\u201d that began in the late 1945, and\u00a0paid tribute to the founding fathers of the State.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cOur independence should be based on the transcendental roles of every chief and queen towards\u00a0a fundamental role for the future of Klikor than individual agendas,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Acting Chief Director also inaugurated Traditional Council offices for the two traditional areas.\u00a0<\/p>\n
