Winston Duke credits the original \u201cBlack Panther\u201d film for changing the \u201clandscape\u201d of the film and TV industry.<\/p>\n
The 35-year-old actor is reprising his role as the warrior M\u2019Baku in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) sequel \u201cBlack Panther: Wakanda Forever\u201d and claims that the original 2018 flick \u2013 the first Marvel blockbuster with a predominantly black cast \u2013 has had a profound effect for representation on screen.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the film\u2019s European premiere in London on Thursday, Winston said: \u201cIt\u2019s only been four years and I would say that the landscape of film and TV looks and feels radically different at the moment.<\/p>\n
Watch video:<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cI think what\u2019s happened as a result of the \u2018Black Panther\u2019 effect is that it was very permissive. It gave everyone the chance to see what is possible when you centre people that aren\u2019t part of the mainstream lens.<\/p>\n \u201cAs a result you save movies like \u2018Crazy Rich Asians\u2019 and tons of other movies that took off like wildfire. That\u2019s the thing about equity; equity trickles upwards.\u201d<\/p>\n The movie was made following the death of the original\u2019s lead star, Chadwick Boseman, and Winston has promised that fans should be excited about the future of \u201cBlack Panther\u201d.<\/p>\n The \u201cUs\u201d actor said of the film: \u201cIncredibly, incredibly proud. Profoundly proud. Excited for where it\u2019s come from, what it is today and also where it\u2019s going.<\/p>\n \u201cI think by the end of this movie, you will not know what is possible for the franchise.
