{"id":1241410,"date":"2022-11-02T07:43:59","date_gmt":"2022-11-02T07:43:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/11\/02\/lack-of-climate-action-in-ghana-costs-about-2bn-per-year-world-bank\/"},"modified":"2022-11-02T07:43:59","modified_gmt":"2022-11-02T07:43:59","slug":"lack-of-climate-action-in-ghana-costs-about-2bn-per-year-world-bank","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/11\/02\/lack-of-climate-action-in-ghana-costs-about-2bn-per-year-world-bank\/","title":{"rendered":"Lack of climate action in Ghana costs about $2bn per year \u2013 World Bank"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/world-bank-1.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<div id=\"article-text\">\n<p>The cost of climate action in Ghana is estimated at about $2 billion per year (in present term value) until 2050, the World Bank\u2019s new\u00a0Country Climate and Development Report\u00a0for Ghana has revealed.<\/p>\n<p>This is equivalent to 2% to 3% of cumulative Gross Domestic Product over the same period.<\/p>\n<p>In the context of high debt and tight fiscal constraints, the report said Ghana will need to carefully prioritize investments starting from no-regret actions that maximise resilience benefits at an affordable cost.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe country will need to take an urgent action to restore macroeconomic stability and debt sustainability and improve business enabling environment to mobilise funds from various sources, including private and development finance\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe report shows that the private sector can lead Ghana\u2019s green growth through areas such as green building, renewable energy, climate-smart agriculture and energy efficiency improvements which IFC is supporting by increasing investment and advisory services to such ventures,\u201d\u00a0said\u00a0Kyle F.
