{"id":1239763,"date":"2022-10-31T16:05:15","date_gmt":"2022-10-31T16:05:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/10\/31\/ghana-tourism-authority-kirani-ayat-reach-settlement-after-copyright-infringement\/"},"modified":"2022-10-31T16:05:15","modified_gmt":"2022-10-31T16:05:15","slug":"ghana-tourism-authority-kirani-ayat-reach-settlement-after-copyright-infringement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/10\/31\/ghana-tourism-authority-kirani-ayat-reach-settlement-after-copyright-infringement\/","title":{"rendered":"Ghana Tourism Authority, Kirani Ayat reach settlement after copyright infringement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/ayat2-e1654186976801-1024x769.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<div id=\"article-text\">\n<p>The Ghana Tourism Authority and rapper Kirani Ayat have reached a settlement after the former was accused of infringing on the musician\u2019s copyrights.<\/p>\n<p>This was after they used footage from the video for Kirani\u2019s song \u2018Guda\u2019 as part of a tourism reel.<\/p>\n<p>A statement posted to Kirani Ayat\u2019s Twitter page noted that \u201cthe parties have reached an amicable agreement in settlement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, details of the agreement were not mentioned.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from reaching a settlement, the rapper and the GTA will collaborate on a number of projects aimed at showcasing Ghana.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAyat appreciates all support from the good people of Ghana throughout this process,\u201d part of the statement reads.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Announcement of settlements. <br \/>To the good people of Ghana, thank you. \ud83c\uddec\ud83c\udded <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/5JM6H2WyCe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pic.twitter.com\/5JM6H2WyCe<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Kirani Ayat + The Spireeet \ud83c\udf0d (@KiraniAYAT) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KiraniAYAT\/status\/1587064888886714368?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">October 31, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3>Background<\/h3>\n<p>In September, musician Kirani Ayat called out the Tourism Ministry and the Authority for copyright infringement.<\/p>\n<p>A video shared on President Akufo-Addo\u2019s social media handles promoting tourism used footage from his \u2018Guda\u2019 music video.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-myjoyonline-com wp-block-embed-myjoyonline-com\"\/>\n<p>Kirani Ayat who was not pleased to see his work used without his consent noted that he spent money in making the video without aid from anyone and yet he was not compensated after his content was used.<\/p>\n<p>But, the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) dismissed claims that some footage used for the new tourism promotional video was pirated.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-myjoyonline-com wp-block-embed-myjoyonline-com\"\/>\n<p>In a press statement, the Authority stated that they procured the footage Kirani Ayat is claiming ownership of legitimately from a creative agency in 2019 as part of a project.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-myjoyonline-com wp-block-embed-myjoyonline-com\"\/>\n<p>However, Samsal denied giving the Authority the go-ahead to use a mood board \u2013 a type of visual presentation or \u2018collage\u2019 consisting of images, text and samples of objects in a composition \u2013 containing Kirani Ayat\u2019s video.<\/p>\n<p>According to the company, the video reel they showed the GTA was only to give them an example of the type of content they intend to produce for the Authority as part of their agreement.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-myjoyonline-com wp-block-embed-myjoyonline-com\"\/>\n<p>They added that the GTA also did not use the video reel they initially created.<\/p>\n<p>Other acts including Sarkodie and Trigmatic also threw their weight behind Kirani Ayat calling on the Authority to do what\u2019s right.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-myjoyonline-com wp-block-embed-myjoyonline-com\"\/>\n<p>Meanwhile, Fuse ODG who also called out the Authority for using his content in the video believes their rights were infringed upon because of the lack of respect and understanding of intellectual property.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-myjoyonline-com wp-block-embed-myjoyonline-com\"\/>\n<p>\u201cAs a Company, we have stayed true to our own mission-investing hundreds of thousands of dollars to promote Ghana over the years, which we will continue to do.
