The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Ga Central, Mohammed Bashiru Kamara, has advised students who wrote the just-ended Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) to refrain from vices that could potentially jeopardise their future.

According to him, some students, after writing the BECE, thought that was the end of the world and, therefore, ended up destroying school properties, allowing friends to influence them negatively and also engaging in illegal and immoral activities.

He cautioned students to desist from such acts as it could inhibit their development and unduly burden their parents who had made so much investments in their education.

The MCE, who was speaking to students during a tour of BECE centres in his municipality, advised the students to be responsible citizens and to see that their actions could negatively or positively affect their future, as well as that of the country.

“You are the future leaders of this country. You must ensure that even after writing the BECE, you remain focused and stay out of trouble as you prepare to enter the senior high school. The country needs you because you are the future of this country,” he said.

Tour

The MCE, in the company of other officials of the municipality, visited all the centres used for the BECE on the last day of the examination. Free SHS

In an interview with the media after the tour, Mr Kamara said the introduction of the Free SHS policy meant that there was no excuse for any child not to have secondary school education.

The Free SHS policy, he said, had not only opened endless opportunities for children to be educated to shape their futures, but had also removed all stumbling blocks that made it difficult and impossible for some students to access secondary education.

He, therefore, advised parents to ensure that their children were enrolled in senior high schools after the BECE to enable them to benefit from the policy.

“It is an investment the government is making in the future of these future leaders, and so every parent must ensure that their children benefit,” he said.

The Ga Central Municipality, he said, had made substantial investments in education to ensure that teaching and learning thrived in the municipality.

For her part, the Municipal Director of Education, Cynthia Winifred Aku Gbadago, said the municipality had an enviable record as one of the best in terms of BECE performance in the whole country.

The municipality, she said, would continue to make education a priority to maintain its position.

The centres include Vicolis School Complex, New Vision Montessori School, Platinum Montessori School and St Justice Preparatory School.
