{"id":1238722,"date":"2022-10-30T16:07:43","date_gmt":"2022-10-30T16:07:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/10\/30\/ghana-to-assume-presidency-of-un-security-council-on-nov-1\/"},"modified":"2022-10-30T16:07:43","modified_gmt":"2022-10-30T16:07:43","slug":"ghana-to-assume-presidency-of-un-security-council-on-nov-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/10\/30\/ghana-to-assume-presidency-of-un-security-council-on-nov-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Ghana to assume Presidency of UN Security Council on\u00a0 Nov. 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Accra, Oct 30, GNA \u2013 Ghana will on Tuesday, November 1, assume the Presidency of the United Nations (UN) Security Council, which is a historic moment in the country\u2019s two-year tenure at the Security Council.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The UN Security Council is the principal organ for the maintenance and furtherance of international peace and security.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration in a media release, copied to the Ghana News Agency, outlined some programmes of activities in November towards Ghana\u2019s Presidency of the UN Security.<\/p>\n<p>It said on Tuesday, there would be a press briefing by Mr Harold Agyeman, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Ghana to the United Nations in New York, to the UN Press Agencies at 1630 hours.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0On the same day at 1900 hours, Mr Agyeman would also brief the Wider UN Membership on the<\/p>\n<p>2 \/ 3 Programme of Work and Ghana\u2019s priorities during the month.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, November 3, there would be an Open Ministerial debate to be chaired by Madam Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Ghana\u2019s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-attachment-id=\"237706\" data-permalink=\"https:\/\/gna.org.gh\/2022\/10\/ghana-to-assume-presidency-of-un-security-council-on-nov-1\/ghana-un-rep\/\" data-orig-file=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/gna.org.gh\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Ghana-UN-Rep.jpg?fit=900%2C889&#038;ssl=1\" data-orig-size=\"900,889\" data-comments-opened=\"0\" data-image-meta=\"{\"aperture\":\"0\",\"credit\":\"\",\"camera\":\"\",\"caption\":\"\",\"created_timestamp\":\"1667140783\",\"copyright\":\"\",\"focal_length\":\"0\",\"iso\":\"0\",\"shutter_speed\":\"0\",\"title\":\"\",\"orientation\":\"1\"}\" data-image-title=\"Ghana UN Rep\" data-image-description=\"\" data-image-caption=\"\" data-medium-file=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/gna.org.gh\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Ghana-UN-Rep.jpg?fit=300%2C296&#038;ssl=1\" data-large-file=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/gna.org.gh\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Ghana-UN-Rep.jpg?fit=900%2C889&#038;ssl=1\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Ghana-UN-Rep.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-237706\" width=\"310\" height=\"305\"   data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><figcaption>Ghana\u2019s Permanent Ambassador to the United\u00a0Nations<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>It will be on the topic: \u201cIntegrating Effective Resilience Building in Peace Operations for Sustainable Peace\u201d from 1400 hours to 1700 hours and 1900 hours to 2200 hours in the UN Security Council Chamber.<\/p>\n<p>President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo would chair a debate at the Heads of State level on the topic \u201cCounter-terrorism in Africa: An Imperative for Peace, Security, and Development\u201d, on the following Thursday,\u00a0 November 10, from 1400 hours to 1700 hours.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0In its capacity as President of the UN Security Council, Ghana is focusing on enhancing Global Peace and Security for Sustainable and Inclusive Development, particularly on the continent of Africa.<\/p>\n<p>This will be by fully addressing underlying causes and drivers of conflict linked to the growing youth bulge, poverty, climate change and the absence of resilient institutions.<\/p>\n<p>Ghana rejoined the UN Security Council from January 1, 2022.<\/p>\n<p>It is the third time Ghana is holding a non-permanent seat on the Council.<\/p>\n<p>Ghana was first given the opportunity to serve on the council in 1962 to 1963, and was back for the period of January 2006 \u2013 December 2007.<\/p>\n<p>GNA<\/p>\n<p><h3 class=\"jp-relatedposts-headline\"><em>Related News<\/em><\/h3>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><script type=\"9523e6be1f6ea6bc17ffa38a-text\/javascript\">(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];
